So you want to see a picture of some of the Walmart problem?

Recommended Posts

First let me say that I have never resold 22 ammo, and NEVER will! I have not, and will not pay 3X $$ for a 22 brick! I will park my 22 rifles and pistols before that!

That being said, I have been known to be in the ammo lines early in the morning at Wally. I may go once a month or so, and have left with no 22s several times. Both of my sons, my wife, and myself LOVE to shoot 22s! We have several 22 pistols and rifles, and I want to have something on hand to shoot in them. I work 40+ hours a week, and the only time I can go stand in line is on Saturday and Sunday. I make NO apologies for going to stand in line! If it is what I have to do to get 22s, I will! If you take my picture standing in line, it will not anger or embarrass me in any way, I am just doing what I have to do to shoot the guns I LOVE to shoot, and to make sure my family can as well!

And, I have NEVER grabbed one of Wally's chairs to sit in, I always stand!

I don't think anyone's critisizing anybody for standing in line to buy .22 if they are buying it for themselves to shoot, it's the ass clowns who buy up all the .22 and re-sale it at 3x more than they paid for it. I have some .22 that I bought several years ago that I probably wont shoot right now. I do plan to shoot some old tarnished .22 from various makers I have, some probably from the 70's and 80's but I will hold on to my newer stuff. I was critisized a couple of years back for buying that cheapo Federal bulk in the milk carton, some saying it wasn't good quality ammo. It might not bee the best but i'm glad I bought it now for just a few bucks, I bet there's alot of shooters that would like to have some of that poor quality Federal bulk now. Personally I haven't had too much problems with it, they all went bang when I shot them.

I guess as a (fun daydream) I wish I had about 50K or more of decent .22, I would go to the next gun show, put a sign on my truck and sell them for $2 per 100 count, limit 500 per person just to pi$$ off some of those swindlers. I would go inside the show first and find out who they are so I know who to refuse to sell to.

If I had 50k rounds I SURE would not have to go stand in line at 6am at Wally!!! Would not resell then either. I would rather have them for my family.

Bingo !

The issue is not the standing in line, or in this case sitting in line  , it's the fact that these guys are making it tougher on those that buy it to shoot it.

Everytime I see that pic I have a nice little daydream of what it would be like to be just down the aisle waiting for the ammo to be brought out. Me, in a 3 point stance crouched and ready like a bull ready to be let out of the gate. Then as the 2 seated losers attempt to pry the chair out from under their sorry asses I coming screaming through with a spear (Goldberg style) and make them both suck some white walmart tile. Then quietly excuse myself :usa:

Seems to me that these guys are just your run of the mill ornery old farts.  We all know the kind.  They know everything, they are always right, they are experts on everything guns included, they can do things that they balk at anyone else for doing.  Most have plenty of money, more than they will ever spend but they seem to get some kind of thrill out of making a few bucks on this ammo just because they can.  Ammo scalping gets them out of the house and away from their nagging wives for a few hours.  Let's buy these geezers some golf clubs and one way tickets to Florida and we can have our ammo back!

If kids know everything and geezers know everything, are the middle-aged the only truly ignorant people? :)

Same here. I have not done it lately since I got some .22 reserves built up but at one time I would go on Sat. and Sun. mornings. I left without more more than I got some. I did not feel bad about it because I was buying for myself and my sons. I never sold any of it except to my sons for what I had in it. And yes I saw the people we are talking about here and did not really associate with them. I would talk with people that were wanting ammo for themselves like I was. It's fairly easy to tell who is who. After I got some built up I quit going but would check when I was there. I usually don't find any but sometimes I get lucky like I did this morning. They had four 550 round boxes of federal sitting on the shelf at 9:00 am. I guess the resalers were in Murfreesboro.

That's that Federal value pack like I have, people used to say it's inferrior ammo but i've had decent luck with it, I have some fairly new quality Remington also. I just fished around a while ago and dug up some real old stuff, a conglomerate of Federal, Remington, Winchester etc. in a ziplock baggie, about 200 rounds. I know most of it is 80's era but should still shoot, i'll find out this week.

I would like to see, or hope that Federal, Remington or Winchester is building up a good stock to dump on the market all at once for decent prices, that might put a stop to some of these ammo swindlers out there. I'm sure it's just a pipe dream though.

I only (re)started shooting as an adult about 1999. Have shot 10+ year old federal bulk pack that had got pretty corroded looking sitting on an indoor shelf, which shot fine.

The only .22 I've encountered that got bad with age was a brick of Aguila Hyper-velocity .22LR. I had got 2 bricks back when, and shot one brick but (perhaps because of the hyper velocity or maybe other factor) it wasn't real accurate in my guns, so the other box sat on the shelf more than 10 years. I know it was reliable if inaccurate when new, but a couple years ago decided to shoot up the remainder to get it off the shelf. At least 2 out of 3 of the aged aguila were duds. I still have some of that stuff sitting on the shelf, because it was so frustrating to shoot with all the duds, I gave up trying to shoot them.

I wish I knew. But people that do this have no cares for others needs or feelings.

You can find 22 ammo online if you know where to look and look often. I see it for 5cents a round on a somewhat regular basis. Unfortunately that doesn't count shipping and many sellers are still limiting the quantity to make shipping as much as the ammo. I found 8c a round with free ship to store at gander mountain while typing this post: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=CCI-Maxi-Mag-22-LR-Ammo-Troy-Landry-Edition-36-grain-CPHP&source=linkconn&lct=s&i=701915 . It will sell out quickly, but 8cents is too bad in today's market. Another 5 bucks to ship it to your house.

It is frustrating to see hear of the same people standing in line everyday and trying to resell. I always make sure to flag overpriced ammo on armslist. Prices do seem to be coming down, albiet slowly. I suspect some of these guys are going to get stuck with more ammo then they will ever shoot.

I inherited about 5,000 rounds of CCI, Remington and Federal from my in-laws, who started saving .22 LR and 12 gauge when authorities took God out of the schools beginning in 1963.  Even though it's been stored in coffee cans for the last 50 years, it shoots just like it's brand new.  Because of this ammo cache, those Wally Waiters don't affect me personally, but I do think they are doing the shooting public no favors.  If they want to re-sell it for big profits, let them get a TN tax stamp and deal on the up-and-up like legitimate ammo dealers.

And the net result would be that you sold your 50k rounds of 22lr for $1000, and the bulk of it would promptly be resold, for 5x that price...

I discussed this issue with the guy that runs the ammo counter at the Ooltewah Walmart yesterday.  He honestly seemed disgusted by what these guys are doing.  He told me (for what it's worth) that he approached the store's general manager and asked for permission to stagger putting ammo on the shelf through out the day in stead of all at one time at 8:00.  He thought that if it was more random that these guys would not risk having to hang out there all day giving the rest of us a chance every once and a while.  He was told by the manager that this was not acceptable and that all stock must be put out at 8:00.

The sad part was that there was an elderly gentleman at the counter looking for .22lr, he was obviously ignorant of what was going on and that there was even a shortage on .22.  I believed him since he was looking for it at 2:00 in afternoon when all the rest of us would know better.  He stated that he had 4 small grandchildren that had been begging him to teach them to shoot and he was just trying to make them happy.  Pretty sad and it makes me hate these assholes even more.  I truly regret not getting that man's phone number and giving him a box from home.  We are all in the same boat though, I have 3 kids at home that would love to go shooting every weekend but I can't even remember the last time we went due this craziness.

I walked into a Wal Mart this morning and they had just put out about 30 boxes of the 225 Remington Golden Bullets for $11.17.  I walked in about 8:40 and there were two guys buying their 3 boxes.  By the time I got my 3 boxes there was another 4 people behind me.  I am sure the rest did not last long.  At least it did not look like people were camped out there.

Matter of fact every time I see them doing the same at m local Walmart I am not going to be discreet when I take the picture. I am also going to let them know it will be on the local Facebook.

Heck yes buddy ! I was hesistant about posting pics but now I'm gonna post these SCALPERS up on here and I hope they see me taking their pics !

We can moan and complain all we want but until wal-mart does something about these guys( who are known resellers), It's just going to be like talking to a wall.

Now, set up a sting operation with the local tax revenue agency( TN tax, etc...) and i'm sure it'll slow down. That is if the government actually cared about these who are re-selling and not paying the government it's share.

If .22lr ever becomes readily available again you're going to find me on a TV show about hoarding...

And that's why it's taking so long. Not that I'm blaming you. Or saying that I'm any different. It's just going to take a long time for everyone to get to where they feel comfortable with their stash cause that's probably at least 5x what it was for those who had a stash before and then there's those that didn't even have a stash* (like myself) and those who didn't even have a gun.

The Free Market isn't always Roses and can be ditch sometimes (d=b ).  I much prefer the free market to other types of markets.

An excerpt from the definition of Socialism:

A socialist economic system is based on the organizational precept of production for use, meaning the production of goods and services to directly satisfy economic demand and human needs where objects are valued based on their use-value or utility, as opposed to being structured upon the accumulation of capital and production for profit.[6] In the traditional conception of a socialist economy, coordination, accounting and valuation would be performed in kind (using physical quantities), by a common physical magnitude, or by a direct measure of labor-time in place of financial calculation.[7][8] Distribution of output is based on the principle of to each according to his contribution. The exact methods of resource allocation and valuation are the subject of debate within the broader socialist calculation debate.

In the Marxist theory of historical materialism, it is predicted that further advances in technology and the productive forces will give rise to a more advanced stage of development referred to as communism, a society in which classes and the state are no longer present, and there is access abundance to final goods, and thus distribution is based on to each according to his need.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism

Amen. I wouldn't trade the system we're supposed to have for anything, except the one we currently have.

If I were the manager at Walmart you can bet I would make some folks mad real quick. I would go back when the ammo went out and when the guys got up out of the chairs to get the ammo they would also be charged for the chair and I would send it home with them. You sit in it over 30 seconds you bought it. I think that might send them a message that they can either stand or by a new chair every time they bought ammo.................jmho

Good luck with that. Even "you break it you buy it" signs are unenforceable. There is nothing you can do to force anyone to buy anything...except run for public office.
