Mother passed away 2 days ago

I mentioned several months ago that the Doc gave my mother hours and she was still alive at home drinking coffee afterward. Well, we knew when the Doc said hours, even though she went home and was still sitting up, watching TV, drinking coffee a week ago that it was only a matter of time. She and I spoke last week. She could barely talk and informed me that severe pain had started and that she was having a hard time talking and this may be the last time we speak.

A few days ago my sister calls me crying and says "mom says her grandmother just came to her and whispered in her ear "It is time to go" and my mother told this to my sister and said it was OK, she was ready to go. My great grandmother has been dead 55 years. Now I don't know what that was but Science says it is the brains response to impending death and has nothing to do with an afterlife. I would like to believe her grandmother came to her, but the logic portion of my brain tells me that Science is right.

I thought I would mention that because it isn't the first time that has happened. When I was stationed in Germany the first time, we were at Graph (Gunnery) and the Red Cross contacted my Command that my grandmother was dying and only had hours left. They wanted me home ASAP. I told my Command that she wasn't dying, I just spoke to her on the phone a couple of weeks earlier. I decided to stay in Germany. What I didn't know was that a year prior she had been diagnosed with some type of Lymphnode Cancer and she didn't want to tell me or want the family to tell me to worry me while I was overseas. Within a few hours the Red Cross came back twice demanding that I leave and get on a flight to the States. I was in my bunk at Camp Aachen (Thought I would mention that for those who have spent time there) and my commander walks in with orders, they weren't asking this time, told me to pack my gear and that I was leaving on the next MAC flight out. Didnt even get to go back to HS to get in Class A's.

So I get there at about 10 at night and the family picks me up and heads straight to the Hospital. Reason was my grandmother wanted to see me as soon as I arrived. They are telling me that her lungs are filled with fluid, she is on all kinds of machines, can only communicate by blinking etc.  I get there and for an hour my grandmother and I, with her sitting up in bed, laughing and joking, talking, and I am thinking, this woman doesnt even look sick. I step outside and ride home with my grandfather (Step Grandfather) because he was home alone I decided to stay with him. My Step Grandfather was a very proper man, held a Doctorate in some sort of Languages, spoke, wrote and read 6 languages fluently, served as a Finnish Ski Troop Commander during WWII then fought the Russians again after joining the German Army. He was also an recipient of the equivalent of the US MOH for blowing up a bridge full of Russians while he was on it. Not someone you would think would believe in fairy tales and was probably one of the most intelligent men I ever met.

As soon as we get in the car he says "She is gone now". And I said something to the effect of, I doubt it, we were just in there joking and laughing. He says that is not how she was an hour before you walked into the room. She is gone. Ill tell you why when we get home. And now I swear I am not making this up. When we got to the door the phone was ringing. he picks it up and in his accent asks, without even waiting for anyone to say anything "Has my wife expired?" I don't know what was said on the other end but the next thing he says was "I am her husband, I know she has expired, all I need is for you to confirm this, you have my permission". And they confirmed it, she was gone.

Then he starts telling me. I was not to see my grandmother in distress. She was like she was for me, she received permission through her mother, who had been dead for some years, to wait for me because she had something she wanted to say to me. If it were not for that, she would already be gone. It was her time over a week ago. But she asked if she could wait for me. She asked her mother, the same mother (Grandmother) who supposedly came to my mother and told her it was time to go a few days ago. My grandmothers mother, told her that it was "Time to go" but when asked, told her she could wait until she saw me. And at the very end of the conversation with my grandmother, she said what she wanted to say and Ill tell you what it was. It was pretty simple. "Be a good man and always  do the right thing, God has plans for you".

So when she had said that I simply wrote it off as having said something nice. But here is the thing. That conversation with my grandmother occurred in 1981. The same exact thing happened with a grandfather only a few months later. And the next to the last thing my mother said to me, was the exact same thing. Two of those grandparents only knew each other in passing and I never had the conversation with my mother concerning what my grandmother told me, and she wasn't there, I was in that room with my grandmother alone and the whole family left at the same time, then she was gone.

One of my uncles, i spent a lot of time with because he helped raise me. A decade ago he and I were sitting on his front porch drinking some beers. This man is was so far from religious, I think he believed in God, but he never, not once ever brought up God or religion and I was around him constantly my entire life. We are sitting on the porch while I was home on leave and out of the blue he says "Jeff, when you leave, you will not see me again, Ill be gone". I told him he just had too many beers, which I know was not the case, he, my father and all of my other uncles were hard drinkers, it took a lot and we had only had a couple of six packs. but he says "nope, when you leave it is the last time you will see me, I know my time is coming". He was only in his 50's and not sick. And to weird me out, he says the EXACT same thing my mother, grandmother, grandfather and one other uncle said before they died. Less than 6 months later, he had a heart attack, went into the hospital, they put stents in, he lasted until New Years eve when he had another heart attack and died.

Logic still tells me that Science is right, that these family members were just saying nice things and that Doctors kept them alive long enough to say these nice things. If I believe they all had a message and something of great proportions were to happen, then it would be self fulfilling, and I don't see anything in the future great happening. I am retired, I served the Country and took care of my family, made sure my child focused on education, earned her degree and will do better than I did. The way I see it, that's it. If someone were trying to send me a message, they would sure as heck be wierding me out trying to do it.

My mother passed peacefully, thanks to the Doctors. She did not want to die in a Hospital and did not want to accept Hospice care because to her that meant it was absolutely over. Last week she asked for in Home Hospice to come. They put her on a Morphine drip and brought in a much nicer bed than hers along with one of those lift chairs because all the way up to the end she was still sitting up and trying to talk. . She told my sister goodbye and she was going to sleep now and went to sleep, the Hospice caretakers told my sister and stepfather that they did not expect her to wake up and she didn't.

After that I had to research what the Scientists and Doctors had to say about things like that. And as I already knew the Human brain is a pretty amazing thing. Things like that are more than coincidence, but Scientifically explained. Things like "Seeing the light" actually being that the brain is shutting down. The fact that there is no recovery from death, people dont die and come back as some claim, your dead when your brain is dead and people do not recover from brain death.

Thought I would mention all that because it is a strange thing. I would have to classify it at the top of weird things that have happened around me.

My prayers for you and your family. I lost my mom Jan 2012. I couldn't care less what science has to say. My fil passed last May and my wife have a "visit" 3 times right begore he passed and an angel was comming and taking him home. When my mom passed my dad came to me and told me he was glad I made it (he died in2010). I believe in life after this life is over and is sounds like your mom and grand mom did too.

I am sorry for your loss. I am in agreement with Dr. Alarms. While science can prove many, many things I am still of the belief that the greatest minds that exist today can't explain everything that happens in this short life we live.

My grandfather underwent a leg amputation a couple Years before he passed. The surgery took a turn for the worse and he died. They worked on him for several minutes before the doctor said he was gone. About 30 seconds later he started moving about (fighting); the doctors began CPR. He died again and again the same thing happened. This time he came back to life. He never would say much about it but he assured us that Jesus had sent him back. In 2006 he passed on. Days before he did, he was talking to his father who had been dead long before I was ever born. He had come to give him an escort home. These stories are the absolute truth and science can neither prove or disprove them. Thank you for sharing your story and allowing me to share mine. Sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

Sorry for your loss. May HE keep you and yours in this time of need. Science is merely a miniscule grain of sand to HE who created it. There are some things that we can just not wrap our minds around and there is a reason for it. Once again, sorry for your loss.
