Post Your Lightweight AR's

Noveske 13.5" NSR rail
BCM lightweight mid length pencil barrel
AAC muzzle brake
NiB BCG
Gieselle SD3G trigger (not installed in that pic, but it's there now)

I use this as my competition gun. It's amazing. I'd say with no optic or mag in the 5lb range. I was skeptical about the pencil barrel and all the Internet ninjas saying the barrel whip sucked and they heated up so fast, Ect, Ect, Ect. But I'm sold on them. I don't notice anything of the sort and use and abuse this gun like the tool that it is. The mid length gas system feels a little smoother to me, and with the AAC brake there is no recoil or muzzle climb at all. Rock solid gun. I'll probably end up changing the eotech to a T1 at some point but that's literally the only thing I would change with this thing.

I like it!!!   ^^^^... I need to go ahead and pick a BCM pencil barrel and get to work... By the way; a good barrel is a good barrel, no matter what the countour... BCM barrels are good stuff as near as i can tell...

My GAU-5 "Son Tay Raider" Clone.  6lbs, 2oz.

This was a custom build that used all Colt parts back when you could get M16A1 part kits.  The custom made XM177 moderator is welded and pinned to the cut down USGI rifle barrel making it 16.1 inch.  The carbine stock is one of the early aluminium ones.  With the Normark Single Point Reflex Sight removed this AR is under 6 pounds.

My "Light" 3Gun.  6lbs, 13oz.

The 3Gun has a 16 inch lightweight, mid-length gas barrel.  Magpul fixed carbine stock.  No BUIS.  No Sling points.  No forward grip.  I might have gotten it under the 6 pounds mark had I not used the 15 inch VTAC Alpha Rail, but I wanted that length for hand placement.

Just finished a lightweight build using this Spike's upper from Aim Surplus.  Fired about 300 rounds through it  without any problems whatsoever.  Spike's dynacomp out front keeps the barrel down and and midlengh gas system makes it an incredibly soft shooter.

I will post pictures later but I have a 20" gun that weighs an honest 5 pounds even.

Anyone who wouldn't believe you would be set straight by the rest of us. :pleased:

I have a poly lower I plan to use as my "light weight" minimalist AR build......still haven't figured out the upper build part yet. Still collecting information before I start slinging cash for parts.....

Some good looking rifles here.....

Wound up with a BCM 14.5" mid-length light weight upper with a pinned and welded Lantac Dragon. Thinking a 13" Troy VTAC but would like keymod rail. Would love a 1.5x16 ACOG but that's out of the budget. May try a Primary Arms micro dot. Opinions on the stock? Considering the MFT Minimalist.

Here's mine, just finished and tested last week, weigh in at 6 lbs 7.3 ounces I know. I know  it's not sub 5 pounds but it's all metal baby! it's balanced, shoots straight figured the money I saved I'll use it towards a gym membership :)

Here's at 25 and 50 yards with 55 grains hornady bullets and 22 grains H335 powder reloads. although I'd like to try a heavier bullet like 69 grains next time to see if accuracy improves at longer distances.

Setup includes the Vodoo Innovations Ultra Light 16.5" rifle length barrel, 15" Seekins BAR keymod handguard, Vortex flash hider, Mag Tactical Magnesium Aluminum Alloy Lower, SI Defense Billet Upper, Giessele g2s 2 stage trigger, si defense nickel boron bolt carrier group, jp enterprises jpoint red dot, magpul gen2 backup sights that's co witness with the JPoint,  furniture are BCM keymod vertical grip, bcm grip mod 3 and MFT minimalist stock all in foliage green.

Mine is 8lbs loaded. Would be less if I had gone with a different barrel. But you will want to get the BCM KMR rail its ridiculously light I LOVE mine. And an AimPoint T1 is prob one of the lightest quality optics unless you do an RMR.

I think the biggest places to save weight will be your barrel, rail, and stock. Not much else you can do to save weight.... Maybe a light weight BCG if you want to go that route.

BTW my noveske afghan barrel weighs like 2 lbs (32oz)
