Stippling

Recommended Posts

I saw the stippling heading and was prepared to dislike it. I'm not really a fan of stippling. I've seen very few jobs that I've liked. Most are not uniform, and just look like a 5 year old was turnedloose with the heat gun.

But seriously, that's a good job. Real neat and uniform. Not so deeply done as to look...well crappy. And the form and balance of the patter is great.

In other words...

I like it.

Thanks! Yeah most stippling jobs look hideous to me and I see a lot of guns that (to me) get ruined aesthetically even if it helps with grip. I was afraid it would turn out that way but a light touch (using just the weight of the tip) gives me the skateboard tape feel without being too rough or too smooth

This one wasn't freehand I cut out a stencil (Monderno helmet in this case since it was relatively simple) out of regular typing paper. If you're fast it doesn't burn ;)

For those interested this is what got me wanting to try it (skip to 2:06 or so) (nsfw language)

Looks like a nice job, careful to detail. Pattern was a good idea. I'm not a fan of stippling, mainly because I think it's unnecessary for most applications, and I dislike permanent modifications to any gun. I don't like grip tape either but at least it can be removed. Nothing makes me cringe more than seeing someone ruin a perfectly good gun by kitchen gunsmithing, spray painting, stippling, etc. If you must do it, at least do it to the removable parts (preferably not the originals) such as mags or grip panels which can easily be switched back or replaced.
