This guy does a lot of testing on security cameras, while it won't tell you which you need exactly it can provide you with some good information; especially if you read though the comments sections.

Edit:  Funny enough, he has a similar eye thingy as my profile picture.  I'm not affiliated with the website.
Super circuits has low budget gear w IR capability for night time. Should be able to do 4 cameras and a DVR for under 600.00. It's not premium quality gear but it works.
supercircuits seems to be the way to go. For $350 I can have everything I need. I'll update more once I get it and get it installed Sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

That's cool do yourself one big favor though. Buy a UPS power supply for your DVR and your cameras so if your wires take a lightning shot hopefully it may protect the system it's cheap insurance. Also a UPS will keep your system running for a few minutes in the event some turd cuts the power to your home before breaking in
Glad it worked out for you

About to pull the trigger on this myself.  Seems the best value around right now (for decent but not waaay pricey) is the Hikvision turret cam, available here for $170.

It's outdoor-rated and is 3MP, which is relatively good.  Here's an in-depth review with pics, etc.

Also, here's a neat article on Barfcom about how to make your own DVR out of an old eBay-special work PC - pretty neat!
