Carry at American Legion or VFW?

Recommended Posts

I've looked, but haven't found a definitive answer to my question. Is it legal to carry into American Legion & VFW buildings in TN? I'm a volunteer leader for a Boy Scout troop & we try to have at least one adult leader CC at most Scout events & always on hikes & overnight trips. We occasionally have to use the American Legion building for meetings & our troop participates in flag ceremonies at the VFW. I haven't seen any signs at either place & have been told it's fine since they're considered private organizations, but I'd like to make sure we're legal so any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both VFW and American Legion are private organizations and the local chapters set their rules.

On a search I see that some ban the carry of firearms while others do not. Most of the discussion has to do with alcohol and state laws, which does not pertain to you.

I would check with them. They would need to be properly posted for it to be a legal concern, or they may simply ask you to abide by their wishes to use their facility.
