Recommended Posts

Go to the cast boolits forum and look at the coatings and alternatives to learn about powder coating. There are several how to stickies with very good information. Any thing you need to know about smelting and casting lead can be found there also. You have several hours of reading if you are interested.

Batman is right. That's a great thread and Caster is good people and was helpful to me as well!

Another excellent thread on here is Dolomite's "Powder Coating the Super Duper Easy Way". Dol is always a great help as well and it's appreciated.

I also agree that the folks at Cast Boolits are GTG, friendly, and helpful.

Thanks for the info, I have done a bunch of powder coating just not with lead and have not used lead boolits, I did watch some utube videos last night and went surching for the 1st type powder coating gun I use to use. I found plenty of the guns on ebay and other places ase they dont use air compressor it is totaly electric, not sure I like the tumble way, so now just need to scrounge up all the parts and hunt around town for lead, the gun I am talking about was sold at one time by sears you can find them on ebay for about 47.00 they dont need air like I mentioned and work real well, I used them on metal art things that I would make and well in Cali before we moved here. Thanks again for the info.

I dont have a tumbler that I would want to use for the methods that I have seen on utube the tumbler that I have is for stainless tumbling my brass, the gun that I had mentioned looks like a hair dryer witha small tank that you fill with the powder and works really well, as I mentioned I had used it for metal art that I had done in the past so it could fill multi rolls should I want to do some powdercoating on gun parts in the future.

We've had incredible success using the dry tumble method. We picked up a Lyman tumbler as a dedicated tool and it was well worth the investment.

We (our casting and handloading group) are several thousands rounds into powder coating 9mm and only wish we had started sooner.

We use powder from Powder Buy the Pound and have tried red, black, and green. The red, for whatever reason, gives us the best coating...but I do like the green as well.

iirc Dolomite, or someone on here, used the spray and found the dry tumble method better...maybe they'll chime in.

+1 on the PBTP and they are local too, so if you are over by Nolensville you can save on shipping, you can also see all the colors on their sample wall.

I used to watch a lot of powder coating videos too! Now, I am a bit of an expert now in powder coating.
