Anyone grow Grapes/Muscadines/Scuppernongs?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to put in my trellis for growing these and am curious if anyone else grows them. I have alot of 4x4 posts left over from pulling a fence up so I should be able to make a pretty nice trellis with them. Any desgin tips or do I basically just need something/anything for the vine to run across. Also how many vines would you recommend? I plan on getting scuppernongs and muscadines and plan on making wine and jam but will mostly just eat them. I am thinking 4 vines total.

Good resource. https://utextension.tennessee.edu/publications/documents/PB1475.pdf

Build an extra good trellis using high tensile wire. Grapes could last a long time and you don't want to have to rebuild your trellis.
My Grandaddy and a great uncle grew muscadines it takes a while to establish them and get them producing so stick with it, take care of them, and be patient.

My family farm used to have a few...We had a ten foot section with two vines. It was two 4x4 posts with thick wire run back and forth. I don't remember much more except it took about three years to see and amount of grapes.
