Guarenteed income? Seriously?

Recommended Posts

Maybe I read it wrong but it says it is money from the casino profits collected by the tribe split amongst the people. What does that have to do with evrybody else or the gov?

Read the whole article.  He says that we obviously couldn't do what Cherokee did on a nationwide scale (that's where your paycheck comes in).  The part that really had me shaking my head was when he admitted the rich "would not be getting as much benefit" because their taxes would be higher.  He seems to imply that they would break even.  I also wonder how he would define "rich."

They studied those in Cherokee who received the payment versus those who did not, but couldn't a similar study be done with those in society at large who are already receiving assistance, e.g. welfare, versus those who don't. Essentially, that is what welfare is, guaranteed money.

I do not understand how giving people money will drive people out of poverty.  Isn't that what a minimum wage attempts to do? Yet, people who make minimum wage are still at the bottom of the food chain and still in poverty.  Some of the people of Cherokee got a little bit ahead because of the extra money, but if everyone received the money, then it is no longer extra money, it is the norm.  You could make the point that will raise the norm of the quality of living. However, if you consider minimum wage increases, which effectively raise the norm, it is evident that raising the norm of income will not raise the norm of the quality of living, everyone remains equal, and those at the bottom will remain at the bottom.

I don't know.  There must be something to all this.  It was devised by people who went to much more prestigious and intelligent schools than me and my modest public education.

If they want to help the poor, they should invest that money into manufacturing in the area that will employ people.

Now that the word is out they are passing out money, they will have all kinds of freeloaders, scammers, and criminals from all over the country headed their way. Some of those locals are going to need to take jobs as cops.

I'd be for this if they took every penny out of entitlement programs and funded it solely with that money.

They could probably write an annual $10,000 check to every citizen over 18 in this country and still save money.

I'm not going anywhere, it's the government that's the problem, not me. They should take a flight.

How dare you wish to deal with people on a voluntary basis without the use of force and violence to enforce your will on them. Don't you know it is only right that you be threatened with kidnapping or murder if you refuse to pay tribute to pay their salary. How dare you fail to provide the proper deference and worship, let alone wish to unsubscribe from their "service". The gall of people like you is amazing. You really should hop on a flight to somewhere else and deal with another gang of murderous robbers who call themselves a "government".

The entitlement programs that I would like to see ended are the programs that provide billions of tax dollars annually to foreign governments and the defense industry while playing on the fears of American citizens.

Imagine how that money could be used for veterans programs, manufacturing startups and infrastructure. Edited by LINKS2K
