Yet another blade grind

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know I have done a few camp style knives lately and with this one I decided to vary the handle a bit. I omitted the Pommel and the bottle opener. This thing fits the hand unbelivelly, even without scales! A little massaging of the choil and off to heat treat it goes! Suggestions for the scales? I'm open!! Jim1427359374_zpsa04ad9bf.jpg

Brazilian Rosewood. I had a Herters "do it yourself" recurve bow out of that one time and it was beautiful after it was sanded and oil rubbed. Guitars are often made out of it. It's a very dark wood, sometimes with a slight redish tent with dark golden veins at times, but not always.

Great thoughts.

Pricey stuff these days though, I suppose it might not be too bad for a few chunks the size of knife scales. It would be pretty for sure.

I would suggest looking for pau ferro for a similar looking wood. Both have a very tight grain and look awesome polished up.

I am partial to wood, too but have to go 'off the reservation' for a scale suggestion on this one.

Something about the shape of this blade (which is very pleasing to the eye, btw) makes me think of a shark.  Maybe consider a blue-grey ('shark' colored) micarta to enhance the 'shark' look?
