Dash Cam

Recommended Posts

Anybody on here have a dash camera in their car?

I've been thinking of getting one for a variety of reasons. I travel a lot for both personal reasons and work and there doesn't seem to be any shortage of lunatics.

I believe it could also be helpful for traffic related incidents and wrongfully given tickets.

Any thoughts on a good one to purchase?

I bought a GoPro Hero 4. When I researched them they didn’t have much competition. I already had a Canon 60D for photography and higher end video but wanted something small and fast with video quality better than a cell phone.

I’ve used my GoPro on the dash. It’s very lightweight and sits on a stand. You can reposition it quickly and it has one button recording (or remote if you wish). Very versatile.

H-P makes one, have one in my wife's car. Starts automatically with the engine, records HD continously to a micro sd card, overwrites the oldest video when the card is full. Also records time and gps location on the video. Edited by enfield

I bought a small one off Amazon by Tectronics. It was only about $69 but had a lot of great reviews. I have had it about 6 months now. It records very plainly even in darkness and records sound if you need a record of what everyone is saying. So far, I have been very happy with it.

I'm going to be getting one for the truck within the next couple of days. I've been meaning to get one for a while to cover my ass in case I end up killing one of these suicidal 4 wheelers in the Nashville area. Brake checking a 40 ton truck in the rain with your whole family in the minivan isn't the brightest idea.

I have bought one but I'm waiting on installing it on getting a new car or a new windshield. I got the B40 because it is fairly discreet (most are huge and hand off a suction cup. I think it will do the job but I'm thinking it's lack of rear-facing cam might definitely be a downside with some of the stuff I've heard going on recently.

It also doesn't have GPS built-in but it is apparently available via a module.

I currently have 2 in my truck, one front facing and one rear.  Both have been problem free and do a good job.

I use this as front facing:

and this rear:

I put a 32 GB card in both, at 1080p you will get about 8 hours of video before it starts overwriting.  Also do not keep the G sensor at the default or you will quickly get locked video file with every bump you hit in the road.
