RALEIGH, N.C. – President-elect Barack Obama said he would improve the economy. Turns out he already has, at least in one retail niche: gun sales.

Starting in the days before the election, gun shops have been mobbed by buyers who fear that Obama and a larger Democratic majority in Congress will restrict firearm sales.

I was at On Target in Murfreesboro twice yesterday and once on Friday. They were absolutely covered up every time I was there and people were buying rather than just tire kicking.

I did my part to stimulate the economy.

my local range is crazy busy...classes are full, guns being sold, waiting list to shoot...its awesome for the range, I am happy to see it do good...but scary as well...I saw people the other day wearing an obama shirt...at the range...trying to buy a gun, and shoot....DUHHH!!!! they voted for him, and now they are panicked...

I think Jay (owner, C/A, doesn't read the boards) said something like, Monday Tuesday and Wednesday, we sold 4 to 5 times as many guns as normal. He said (though I didn't count) we did 100 sales, if we include the Saturday before. All I know is, normal sales for us are something like 5-10 a day this time of year, and we're consistently 15+ per day basically since late October.

I know this much, lately this job is the best diet I've ever had--I eat breakfast at 7A, I eat again when I get off around 7P.

that has nothing to do with Obama, I was at the Gun City in Nashville 6 months ago and they couldn`t keep a gun in the store....to say that people are buying guns because Obama is a president is funny.....you need to understand that if the goverment decides to take your guns, they will find a way to do it, don`t worry about that, Obama or not....

Thats because six months ago it was pretty apparent who was going to win the election.

Halfpint is right... The shop looks empty compared to normal.. I think in a way it had a lot to do with the election but after seeing the news the other night and seeing the amount of robberies in certain zip codes around Memphis that cud have had a lot to do with it too... I just know guns seem to b extra popular this year... that or i just never knew how popular they were since ive just recently got interested into them....

I just saw a 10 o'clock news piece about coal creek having a large increase in sales due to the election. Lots of people stocking up on AR's and hi-caps from what they were saying.
