Crossbows

Recommended Posts

Compact and crossbow are two words that usually don't go together. I've never had good luck with the more complex crossbows. However, I've had fantastic success with Excalibur bows. Rugged, reliable and accurate. If a string breaks, I can replace it in the field in a matter of seconds. Can't recommend them enough... however, there is nothing compact about them.

There are the reverse draw bows, more compact and supposedly better in almost every way. Supposed to be quieter, and stonger. But they're typically more expensive, I think Barnett has a reasonably priced one now. I've had two bows, both entry price Barnett... read cheap.... I've found good quality bolts make a big difference in accuracy. But even though I've always had the cheapest bows.... with each one I've had, I'd feel confident taking a shot on a deer to about 50yds. And have taken a couple at that distance.

I even did a clean up shot at that distance, was hunting with a friend (we were sitting close since it was his first hunt) and he made a bad shot, i hit the buck running right through the lungs at about 40yds... dropped 30 feet from there.

They're deadly when you get them sighted in and use a good bolt! Edited by SupaRice
