I know you guys are baggin on the MTDs, but I've had mine since 1992 and other than replacing a bent blade (my fault), oil changes and air filters, the bad boy will not die.  LOL  It's just a little 14.5 hp B&S with a 38" deck.  I don't mind taking longer to mow… it's my quiet time away from the wife.  ;)

Being a "low-end" mower it really boils down to how well you take care of it. Most will last forever if well cared for and will still get the job done.

 

Being an avid estate and yard sale monger I see mowers all the time and most are MTD's or the like that have been left outside. Come spring they won't start and up goes the sale sign. Heck, I picked up a few push mowers off the curb waiting for trash pickup where all they needed is fresh fuel and a carb clean.

 

Just a tip for those unknowing, your mower and 2stroke engines will run much better if you use non-ethynol fuel and drain it in the winter or use a fuel stablizer. Not having clean fuel is the usual issue.

i have a husky zero turn thats over 10 yrs old i just bought recently. 25 hp kawasaki w a 52 in deck, runs like a champ w over 500 hours on it. i shopped forever till i found one at the right price,didnt want to spend 10 grand on one either.but!

am extremely pleased w it!
