Got my NRA certification a year ago, never taught a class, what do I need to do to keep my certification?

Just curious, but why have the cert if you're not going to use it for teaching carry permit classes? Is there some other benefit for just having it?

That's a good question. I've always informally taught people how to shoot and I thought that having a NRA certification would lend some credibility when talking to people about taking a class. It's made a difference. I've spoken to a few ladies that I work with when I overheard them talking about needing to learn how to shoot their husband's guns. When I mentioned that I was a "NRA Certified Instructor" they seemed much more open about asking questions and more interested in learning. I haven't taught any official NRA classes but, like I said, I do a lot of informal teaching. Edited by timcar86

I've considered doing this. What is involved in being certified and what is the expense?

Sitting through a 12 hour class and shooting a paper target at 15 yards. Open book test at the end. I think the cost was around $400 when it was all said and done.
