Remaining Govt Inventory of 1911's to be Sold to the Public?

Recommended Posts

There are some online ones like Garand Collectors Assoc. http://thegca.org/

This may be a bingo, thank you very much.  I do like that site and what it has to offer, and I did acquire my first Garand earlier this year.  So this may work.  Do you get points for referrals?

I joined the GCA to get my M1 from the CMP. It made it easy. You get a good magazine with it too.

I'm not holding my breathe that these will be sold anytime soon. I expect all kinds of road blocks to be put up by the administration through the end of Obama's term. And if Hillary (the odds on favorite) gets elected, then CMP may never sell them.

President Barack Obama signed a sweeping defense policy bill into law on Wednesday, legislation that authorizes $607 billion in defense spending but also includes provisions that make it harder to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

So how long before 1911's go on the market I wonder?

They may or may not go on market for many years, or ever if we don't get a Rep. president?   Meaning it depends on The Secretary of Army's say so. Meaning, in reality probably Obama's (and maybe Hillary's) say so?

But one can dream that original military issue 1911 will be once more on the market with the all of the nostalgia (at least I am).  Plus, I may have to join the Garand club so I can qualify to buy CMP.  Its a good cause, even if it may take 1 year, 2 years, 3 years.....for the guns to come to market.

Optimism without evidence isn't logical, and pessimism has the additional saving grace of lessening the most bitter of disappointments. ;)

Nice.  I may have to use that along with my current favorite, to wit:

"Always cultivate low expectations.  That way other people are never disappointed, and are sometimes pleasantly surprised" ...

"Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train."

"People tell me to cheer up, things could be worse. I cheered up, things got worse."

“The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds; and the pessimist fears this is true.”

Btw, other parts of this NDAA version also remove ammo and components from the Toxic Substances Control Act and starts process of allowing military personnel to carry heat on base (subject to command decision).

Seems to me the ammo part is big, and removes all this from EPA control?

"SEC. 315. Exclusions from definition of “chemical substance” under Toxic Substances Control Act.

Section 3(2)( B )(v) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (15 U.S.C. 2602(2)( B )(v)) is amended by striking “, and” and inserting “and any component of such an article (limited to shot shells, cartridges, and components of shot shells and cartridges), and”."

"SEC. 526. Establishment of process by which members of the Armed Forces may carry an appropriate firearm on a military installation.

Not later than December 31, 2015, the Secretary of Defense, taking into consideration the views of senior leadership of military installations in the United States, shall establish and implement a process by which the commanders of military installations in the United States, or other military commanders designated by the Secretary of Defense for military reserve centers, Armed Services recruiting centers, and such other defense facilities as the Secretary may prescribe, may authorize a member of the Armed Forces who is assigned to duty at the installation, center or facility to carry an appropriate firearm on the installation, center, or facility if the commander determines that carrying such a firearm is necessary as a personal- or force-protection measure."
