I would search around because I have seen them in the sub $250 range before.

Here is one $50 cheaper.

And the search continues.

You might be able to buy the super cheap "carbine" kit and then just buy the shorter piston direct from AA.

I ordered everything else I needed to finish the build last night.

For the gas system, I ended up going with this setup: http://www.adamsarms.net/pistol-pdw-length-piston-kit-xlp-no-rail

Ever use it?

I hope it doesn't suck.

Nope,

only piston upper I have is my shrike.

I'd be interested now your flaming pig works, nothing like a huge fireball and tracers to get the RO attention....

I run a 4 piece brake which is like a KX-3 on my 7.5" AK. If anything needs flash mitigation it is that gun and it reduced the flash substantially as well as making it less painful to shoot because of the muzzle blast. Normally the muzzle blast forces you to close your eyes but not with the 4 piece brake.

I ran a KX-3 on a 13" AR and it made a huge difference on it as well.

The only thing I do not like about these types of brakes is it does increase felt recoil because it increases the back pressure which increases the bolt speed. If you are going to run one on an AR make sure to also run an adjustable gas block.

I'm probably going to give this a try later on: http://primaryweapons.com/wp/shop/cqb-compensator/

It looks a little better than the KX5 Flaming Pig actually.

Well, after a test fit, I have run in to multiple issues.

1. The rod itself is the wrong length. It's too long and would require at least a 10 inch barrel to have enough room for the gas block to sit and still have room for the flash hider.

2. The gas block won't clear the Daniel Defense Lite II 7.0 rail in the inside even if the rod was short enough to tuck the gas block under the rail.

I'm going to contact Adams Arms and get them to send me the correct kit. When they send the correct shorter Pistol (PDW) kit, I'll still have to buy a rail with larger inner diameter to clear the gas block.

Other way to fix the issue would be to toss my 7.5in barrel in a box for a future build and get a CHF 10in inch barrel, but that would really put this "pistol" at an undesirable length for me.

The only other alternative I have to keep it at 7.5 inches is to buy a whole new gas impingement BCG with gas tube and gas block and then just save the Adams Arms Piston kit for another build.

That looks like it is going to be a lot of fun to shoot...

I can't wait to get it finished up!

Just got to do a couple more things and it'll be done!

I might build my Mega Billet Ambi set in to a 6.8 SPC or .300blk pistol, but still reading up on that. :)

Any ideas of what you're looking for in a rail? Or just that it fits the piston setup?

Not sure which one yet, but I'm looking for maybe a 7.5 to 8 inch quad rail. It's got to clear the AA XLP gas block and the Noveske KX5, too.

What's your budget for it?

If you want something really economic, go veriforce: https://www.veriforcetactical.com/product/ar15-free-float-rail-system-with-continuous-top-rail/

I have one of their MLOK rails and the quality is fine. The finish isn't the absolue best I've ever seen, but not bad either. No name recognition though.
