Who can do glass bedding

Recommended Posts

Dremel Tool, AcraGlas Gel kit, molding clay, masking tape for edge of stock before release agent.

The first one I did I used a cardboard box to hold rifle while placing AcraGlas in stock after preparation to prevent mess.  Brownell's web site has video's showing how to do it as well as the equipment you need.  I have never paid for having a Remington Rifle glass bedded.

What would you use for a release agent? I bedded a forearm to a Handi rifle with JB weld and used Vaseline on the barrel. It still stuck so bad I thought the forearm would break before I prid it off. Boy, it sure fits nice though!

I actually have a large marinetex kit. Maybe I'll use that.

Paste car or floor wax will do the job. Fully clean and degrease the metal surfaces and  apply the wax to the clean dry surface. Plug any empty screw holes or voids you don't want glassed. Don't get carried away hogging out the stock material as it only takes a little glass to do a proper job.

There's already a considerable amount of room in the barrel channel. More than enough I'd say.

If its a stock factory barrel the extra space is free floating to avoid unwanted barrel pressure which could affect your point of impact. Most folks only glass the actual receiver area and to the furthest pressure point in the barrel channel.

It's a Columbian military 30/06. The stock is an aftermarket thumb hole affair, I'm betting Boyd's.

With the intensity of a 30/06 and as thin as this barrel is, I'm worried about barrel whip. I'm not inclined to shorten it because that defeats the benefits a 30/06 offers over a 308. I can move the barrel with thumb pressure.
This rifle will never wear a scope and my eyes suck but I want to remove any room for error on the rifles part if I can.
