Veteran's Day

Right now I'm TDY in a hotel room having a cocktail and thinking about the friends I've lost in 22+ years of military service. Sadly I've lost more to suicide than enemy fire. Think about the people in your life, look out for them, love them and always be there for them. You could be the difference between them being here tomorrow or not.

I am in the same boat, brother.
2 suicides in EOD School. 4 at Fort Campbell. 1 in 7th Group. And then 1 medical related death during basic. It is really sobering.

I second this - being there for other people may not seem like much, but you never know how much of a difference it can potentially make. It is much better than to live with guilt

OP hope you don't mind to turn your well spoken OP into a grateful Veterans Day posting.

THANK YOU VETERANS for all that you have done, have sacrificed, are doing, are sacrificing, and the actions you will do, and the sacrifices you will continue to make.

I am safe, I am warm, and I am a free citizen of this great nation and its because of you and your stance.  Again, Thank You.

Now go find you a free meal today!  :usa:

I agree with all the previous posts, being a combat wounded 'Nam vet  myself. But it would be nice if the vets could have the day off from work, with pay, rather than the folks who work for some gov. agency, banks, and the few others that close on Vets Day.

Thanks to all the vets on here who went before me and built the legacy I hope I lived up to during my time.

Toady was "business as usual" for me event wise, but one unique aspect was that I had a chance to visit the Boys & Girls Club here in Murfreesboro for some schoolwork.  I don't usually get too retrospective, but seeing those kids running around, and interviewing such a dedicated staff of people willing to help their community, I couldn't help by realize I was standing in the very type of environment that I had fought to keep safe.

Happy Veterans folks.

We went to knoxville for dinner and a movie.....dinner was FREE at Calhoun's.  I had the pulled pork..was awsome....the place was jumpin wall to wall. Met some ole 2nd world war vets and heard a couple of great stories.  All those years and they never forget like it was yesterday.
