Fight At Night : Defensive Concepts for Dark Environments

Date: Saturday March 12
Time: 4PM - 11PM
Location: The Ridge Dayton TN. (http://www.theridgeshooting.com/)
Price $160 cash or check. ($60 Deposit to hold spot / balance due night of class).
Instructor: Randy Harris

This rarely offered class will cover some critical skills which include shooting with and without the help of flashlights in low or no light. We will work both proactively challenging unknown potential threats and reacting to unexpected close range attacks in low light settings. You will see just how much light you really need to accurately shoot by and how much light you actually need to ID targets. We will also cover manipulating the pistol in the dark both with and without a light in our hands. We will load , unload and clear malfunctions with and without flashlights.  A fair amount of time will also be devoted to using the flashlight as a tool to help you get deselected in the "pre fight interview" , use the light as a distraction device and impact weapon, and as a bridge from less lethal to lethal force.

Range Gear and requirements : Handheld flashlight (Surefire 6P, G2, Streamlight Scorpion or similar). Extra batteries.  Pistol and holster designed to be worn on the belt. Two spare mags  (3 total minimum) and a mag pouch. Range Safety gear (eye and ear protection) . Clothing appropriate for weather. Snacks and drinks.

Ammo: Approximately 250 rounds.

If you have a weapon mounted light for your pistol and want to use it for some drills then please bring it too. If your carry pistol has a light that is fine too just make sure it fits your holster. If you have a "blue gun" or airsoft gun and training knife  you want to bring feel free to do so. We will be doing some interactive exercises where students will play the role of both good guys and bad guys to get a better feel for just what each experiences when the techniques are applied in low light. If you don't see it from both sides you only know about half of what is going on.

A $60 deposit will hold a spot for you in this class. Balance due at class. We are limiting it to 16 students so you might want to get your deposit in soon. To register or for more info either PM me here at TGO or email me at Cruelhandluke2000@yahoo.com.

Hope to see you there!

This is coming up in about 3 days (nights?) . We will still be doing the class rain or shine...(or rain or.... dark?...or well you know what I mean). So bring a jacket. There is a classroom (and a coffee pot), so if it gets rainy and cold we can duck into the class room until it passes.

Looking forward to it!!!

Just a brief report from our training last night.  As usual Randy put on a very good program with the help of those at the The Ridge shooting facility.  There is more to shooting at night than just shooting in the dark.  A jammed-pack 8 hours of personal protection techniques utilizing awareness, simple self-defense maneuvers, and flashlight work were presented and practiced.  The goal being personal safety and hopefully avoiding the necessity to have to deploy the use of a firearm.  But if it came to the use of a firearm in the dark then one now has some idea what to expect and how to get the hits needed to survive the encounter.

I will second Chances R on this.

I was there as well and as my first class with Randy and Suarez as well as at the Ridge facility I came away very satisfied with the class and what was presented.

When I saw that this was being offered I jumped at the chance to take this class it is the only night training class I have seen offered for civilians. I came away from it with a much greater understanding of the dynamics of a possible confrontation in the dark, or near darkness. Lets face it a great majority of confrontations happen at night. Randy discussed first how to prepare yourself to have the best chance of avoiding a confrontation then how to handle it in a way that is likely to avoid any type of violence in the first place. Then he took the class through several exercises that started with just a flashlight, all the way up to shooting in darkness with only a flashlight.

A great deal of information was passed on and I know that I will keep this training in mind whenever I am out in public in the dark.

Thanks to Bill at the Ridge for providing the range for this class. There aren't many places that could host this sort of thing late into the evening hours.

Thanks to Randy for his professionalism and knowledge.

Get yourself a flashlight and take this class if at all possible. It was positively worth it.

Late to the party on the after action report, but this was a fantastic class. I was extremely impressed with the breadth of the subject matter, ranging from fundamentals of pistol shooting and drawing from a holster, perpetrator motivating psychology and personal safety strategies, some unarmed combat, shooting on the move, to using the flashlight as both a tool on its own and as a shooting aid.  It was a jam-packed class brimming with juicy concepts and practical tips, and well worth the price of admission.

Two surprises for me:

1) The blinding power of even a basic "tac" light is impressive and an effective tool, as clearly-demonstrated in this class. Anyone concerned with personal safety should carry one.

2) Things I'd read about dealing with blinding effect of muzzle flash in the dark were pretty much universally misleading. Muzzle flash was not much an issue for vision.

Randy runs an excellent, well-organized class, and instructs with insight and humor making for a very informative and entertaining experience. Moreover, he exhibits a great deal of patience and courtesy with low-skill students like myself, which is greatly appreciate by us Private Pyles. I'd highly recommend this class to anyone who carries or might carry a firearm, day or night. Great class, great value.
