Anyone purchase ammo online and have found a place that offers good prices and quick shipping? I have found a few that even offer free shipping but wasn't sure of the legitimacy of them.

All depends on price, availability and if I need to order other stuff. I use both CheaperThanDirt as well as Target Sport USA.

In addition to Target Sports (already mentioned), I like Palmetto State Armory and Widener's.  No single one of them always has the best prices on everything but if you sign up for their e-mail sale alerts you can sometimes catch real deals.  Palmetto State Armory also sometimes has smoking deals on guns, particularly of the AR family.

SGAmmo is always my first choice. I've used Target Sports USA many times due to their free shipping on bulk purchases. Both of those sites generally have the best prices, but not always. Palmetto State Armory has sales all of the time with fast shipping. I can also locate hard to find match ammo at Selway Armory or Ammunition Depot. Those choices are all good to go.

I use "http://www.gunbot.net/ammo" as a starting point to get a feel for average prices, and if the shipping is right I buy from the cheapest retailer.  Otherwise, I use "http://www.targetsportsusa.com/" "http://www.ableammo.com/" "http://www.sgammo.com/" "http://www.ammoman.com/" etc.  I will caution that shipping costs vary big time, and that determines the better deal when I average that into the costs per round.

As far as security and buying online vs the local Walmart or local gun shop, I haven't had any problems at all from online sales.  I like getting home from work and the box waiting for me at the front door!

I also use gun-deals.com/ammo to find the lowest $/rd delivered. I've had good luck buying from SportsmansGuide, SGAmmo, AIM Surplus, Palmetto State, and Freedom Munitions, plus I'm sure some whose names slip my mind right now.

Now's a good time to pick up those calibers. I'm seeing some nice low prices on both. Sportsman's Guide had S&B 9mm delivered for $0.19 or $0.20/rd last week. I've seen brass .223 close to the $0.30 mark. SGammo has Wolf Gold for $0.31.6/rd delivered
