Yes, it is expensive, but generally just works off condensation. I believe it also has a solar panel that makes it work as well as gives the option for solar USB charging. Could possibly be a great SHTF/Survival piece of gear, but it is expensive and likely would work slow.

I'm interested if the price comes down.

Tried to read all the materials. Did anyone see comments on the time required to fill an .8 liter? Seems like a factor to be known. All I remember seeing was a comment on how it worked better in 90+ humidity conditions.

Live science has an article on it. Says in optimal conditions it can produce a half liter per hour, so essentially an average water bottle's worth. Aside from the cost, it seems like a plausible backup during a Southern summer. Edited by Shorty

Might work for some, but I drink far more than that an hour. Yes, I know it's really for all you skinny guys who don't sweat all your fluids out, and for basic emergency water source.

But that doesn't make it not an ingenious system. Like you Shorty, I'd like to try it if not for the cost.

Cool gadget, but I can by a bunch of Sawyer Sqeeze filters for the cost of one of those.

The self filling water bottle and the Squeeze filter address two totally different problems.

The squeeze filter is great when you have access to water but is useless when water cannot be found.

Finding water in Tennessee is not that hard but if I found myself in a desert I would rather have something that makes water over something that just filters water.

But as I understand the device, it requires high humidity to work and you don't get that in the desert.

It's a bit of smoke and mirrors from all accounts because the solar power panel isn't large enough to fill the bottle in a timely manner. This doesn't mean something better couldn't be worked out but it's going to take more power. What your basically dealing with is a miniaturized dehumidifier filling up the water bottle. It would take several days of continuous sunlight to work with the above mentioned self filling water bottle.
