The Smyrna Airshow this weekend

Recommended Posts

I love living where I do when the show's in town - which is inline with the runway. I've already had 2 x F-22 Raptors and the Blue Angels flying over my house. Also had a flight of prop planes fly over, but I couldn't tell what they were. They were probably trainers. I expect the Blue Angels will be practicing this afternoon some. I know they will be tomorrow, but unfortunately I have to go into the office tomorrow. :(

It's the first time that I've seen the F-22's. They sure look badass! :)

Sources are saying looks like the pilot road it in, trying to avoid houses.

If that's true, everybody oughta raise a glass to that guy.  That takes a selfless man to be that kinda hero.

He could have just as easily punched out and the plane landed on god knows what.

It was the pilot.  :-(  Not that any loss of life is better than another, but still sad.  Brave and selfless man to make sure only he bore the cost of whatever happened with the plane.  Prayers to his friends, family, and the Blue Angel family.

In 1983 while in the Marine Corps, I had an A-6 Intruder blow up a couple hundred feet over my head to the front. This strikes home to me in two ways considering I live off the runway. I'm gonna lift a drink to the pilot, and then have a couple more afterwards. :(

My office is along-side the airport.  I watched them fly right over my building just over our roof and tree line all day. Such an awesome sight.  Many employees carried a chair out to watch throughout the day.  One of our supervisors saw the accident... or what you could see of it at a 1/2 mile or so.  We all watched the Smoke rise hoping he ejected.  I agree a glass should be raised in honor of this hero.

Just read where the Thunderbirds lost a plane also today. No injuries in that crash though.

Not only did a Thunderbird and Blue Angel both crash today, but it was also the No. 6 plane in both cases...amazing coincidence.  And yes, a raised glass is in order.
