Floor Jack Recommendations?????

Recommended Posts

My old Chinese tool sale floor jack finally petered out, and I need a new one for the garage. I'm not a mechanic. I just need one for the occasional oil change, brake job, etc.

I can go to Harbor Freight and pick up another one, and expect it to provide several more years of service.

I was hoping someone here could recommend a good one, and a good place to get it for a reasonable price.

I have one that is an AC Delco I got from O'reileys. Haven't had any problems with it.

My dad had a big one, looked like a racing jack, might have been, idk. One stroke and it went from the floor to whatever you were lifting. Bought it at a flea market for what seemed like cheap.

My 3 ton Harbor Freight jack has lasted through something like 15 yrs of oil changes, brake jobs, starters, ...   The trick to making them last is only use them for lifting, jack stands are for holding.

I'd guess most any modestly priced jack will be made overseas.

The one you have may just need some hydraulic fluid or you can replace the hydraulic cylinder. If your plan on buying a new one I would recommend a low profile Duralast 2 1/2 Ton aluminum steel garage jack from Autozone.....You can order from their website and get 20% off

Thanks for the suggestions. As the sale runs out today, I went on to Harbor Freight and got this one.

It was $79.99 through today. I think it'll do what I need. I kind of wanted to buy a really nice one, but don't use one enough to justify it.

Been using something about like this one for several years now.  I have three.  They've been pretty good.  Nothing broke I couldn't fix pretty easy.

I use mine more in a day's time than most of you guys will use them in a lifetime.

I tried the Aluminum jacks....what a friggin' joke.  They will bend on a 3/4 ton truck unless you keep them perfectly straight and scotch the wheels.  I wouldn't give a plug nickel for one of them.

I was leery about the aluminum as well. I drag it around a concrete floor, and don't carry it, so I went with steel.
