To end the automated calls do this. Find a recording, like on Youtube, of the first few seconds of the disconnected line tone. Record that as your greeting followed by your message. To a person it is some sort of glitch and they won't think anything of it but an automated dialer will hear it and list your number as disconnected. I used to get horrible telemarketer calls on my cell phone. I actually got a call while I was telling another to quit calling. After recording the disconnected tone and letting all calls go to my voice message all the calls pretty much stopped. I still have to let my phone go to my voice message a few days a year but it is way better than before.

I will be doing this... I get that phone call several times a week plus many others. I too don't answer any phone that I don't recognize the call number. But these clowns fill up my answering machine.

I'll tell you what, there are so many dishonest people in the world.

We have a fair amount of members that are getting older.  Sadly, older people are the target of many of these things.

I used to live in Atlanta.  There was an elderly lady across the street.  Some scumbags came by and said he roof needed to be treated for some reason or other.  She paid them.  They were on the roof spraying water on it when another neighbor checked on her and called the police.

The thieves left before the police could get there.  Too bad, the Dekalb County Jail isn't a great place for white boys.

I used to get a lot of telemarketer calls, and I used to have a lot of fun with them.

One of my favorites was to get all apprehensive sounding when they would say my name. Then I would interrupt them and tell them that I was in the witness protection program, and that was my old name. I'd ask how they got my old name with my new number, get all freaked out sounding, and finish it off by saying that "if you found me then so can they". I had one lady seriously get concerned and call her supervisor over.

If callers ever asked for my wife, I would say "My wife is not allowed to use the phone right now, and her phone privileges won't be restored for a while." They never knew how to respond to that.
