223 Wylde AR

Recommended Posts

My brother just traded for an AR and when he got it home, he noticed that it was marked 223 Wylde. He shoots mostly steel case ammo(Wolf, Silver Bear) in his other AR with no problems. Now he is worried that he won't be able to shoot cheap ammo in this one.

I've read that some Wylde chambers are bad about having stuck steel cases.  Does anybody here have one and successfully shoot steel case in it?

Thanks

I just googled  223 Wylde  vs 223 remington and there's a lot of info out there. Doesn't seem like it would be a problem.

Example:  The .223 Wylde chamber is not a caliber, it is a barrel specification. All .223 Wylde chambered rifles are capable of firing both .223 Remington and 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition.

What xsubsailor said! lol. Yes, shooting either .223 Rem or 5.56 NATO is precisely what the .223 Wylde was designed for. The only place that I can foresee an issue with the steel casing ammo is perhaps with the bolt extractor. The steel may wear down the extractor quicker that brass cased ammo.
