I like my pair of Howard Leight Impact Pro powered muffs. They easily allow me to converse and hear what's needed while wearing them. The volume dampening happens VERY quickly when a shot is fired, providing protection. The auto-off feature saves battery life. They also have a convenient input jack for portable devices, although I don't use that feature.

The two downsides I've found are that one of my ears is a bit larger than the other so a portion of my ear gets pinched under the muff, which isn't a reflection on the product, and that the muffs are too big & get in the way when I shoot *some* rifles, particularly the KelTec Sub 2000, as the shell of the muff bumps the stock making site picture acquisition difficult...on *some* rifles, not all. There are other models that take the size of the lower muff shell into consideration & thereby avoid this situation.

Overall, I give it a 4.5 out of 5. For the $70 I paid, I'm well satisfied. https://goo.gl/MwG2vw

Absolute best budget ears I've found(right around $100 for the combo) I liked the howard leight's ok but found them uncomfortable for longer periods of wearing.

Best "cost is of no object" ears I've used -($250-$300)

I had a set of Pro ears for a while but fund the larger cups interfered with many of my stocks. Otherwise they were also great.

Every product seems to have its pros and cons. I've had a lot of low end, non-electronic muffs. They work.

But as we age, the sound muting of the electronic style sure are handy. And like firearms, each one is a good fit for some, better for others.

I've had Peltor muffs and Howard Leights. Both seem about the same to me.  I personally prefer, and am currently using Peltor units. I have a set in my range bags, one in the safe with my firearms(Just in case I need them quickly.), and several spares in storage. I ran into them in Lowes several years ago. They were less than 50 bucks each, so I bought 3 sets.

Then my wife bought me 2 sets for my birthday. So I'm pretty well set. The only thing I dislike about them is the pita to replace the batteries. Otherwise ... they are fine for me.

I had one of the Howard Leight Impact - they worked fairly well but did not fit me well so they ended up sold.

I bought a Peltor Tac 100 at Home Depot for about $45 one year and they have been great. They run about $65 now but I am tempted to buy a second pair.

I need a second pair right now - my other earmuffs are passive protection only. I want an electronic pair to keep in both of my range bags though. I am eyeing the Walkers Razor Slim - anyone here use a set and have opinions how they stack up with the Peltor?

ETA - I would like to try the Walkers Razor X but not quite willing to pay that much right now since it is a want, not a need. These do not fit over your head and would not interfere with a rifle stock (as even the slim muffs can do).

I ordered the Walker's Razor Slim and used them at the range today. They are being returned to Amazon tomorrow.

Absolute garbage - no sound dampening at all. The mics work great, pick up a lot more than my Peltors do. But there is no dampening for any gun shots, whether I was the shooter or standing a couple of feet from someone else. My Peltor's dampen everything.
