  1. That really is not a lot of money nationally.

The NRA is killing itself though ... slowly.   The constant money grubbing scams (yes, scams!) have caused people like me to hang up on them rather than give anything.   The wording of the articles in their mags and the phone calls is a constant "give or lose your guns" -- its an *emergency* and a *crisis* and they gotta have your $200 (yep, the last time they called me, that asked for TWO HUNDRED BUCKS)  NOW or DOOM.  DOOM I SAY!   Its been the same story in terms of fighting gun control since at least 1960, its a daily battle and I get that.   But the last 5 years or so the NRA has been using more and more disreputable tactics to get funding.   I cant even remember the last time I felt they called me with an honest approach and made me feel like a few dollars would get something done.  Instead, their phone calls make me feel like I am talking to the guy that wants my IP address and password so he can remotely "FIX" my computer.

And they still have not apologized for the assault on the first amendment (wayne's blame video games foot in mouth screw up @ sandy hook).

I agree 100%   How many times have you heard that "Your membership dues are NOT enough..."

  2. As a retired O6, I'll try not to resemble all the anti-officer, particularly anti-senior officer remarks. :)

Most of the officers I ever respected were line guys ... people who opted for combat arms over a desk.  Many of them were super smart scholars themselves, but they chose to serve with sailors, soldiers, Marines & airmen over the bemedaled bureaucrat computer jocks.  They all had personal viewpoints but kept them mostly to themselves because the entering argument for a commission is selflessness ... the limelight is no place for an officer, and the political arena is anathema.

This guy is a zero.  All the services have far too high a promotion rate at O4 & above - here's a case in point.  This guy's rhetoric is pure treason & I'd like to see him stripped of his pension.

It has been my experience that we enlisted soldiers (or former), when it comes to senior officers, tend to hate the bad ones, dislike the average ones and love the good ones! (After we figure out which ones are which that is.) All of them deserve respect for their rank and position. That was my view from the motor pool anyway.  If he were a senior NCO then there would probably be a lot of anti NCO remarks. What I'm trying to say is its a shame that he is dishonoring all officers, past and present, simply by his association with the officer corps.

  3. no they should not routinely ask about guns.

If a gun is why you are seeing them I would say it is okay.

    For example.

Doctor: "Do you own the Glock that you shot yourself in the butt with?"

And example of not okay might be
Doctor: " There now, the hangnail is all removed, apply this ointment twice a day,
By the way do you own guns?"

Pretty much I am going to tell the doctor to stick the the medical subject at hand.

    Proper response is,
"Yes, of course it was a Glock, but ownership details are privileged information."

    - OS

I have never shot myself in the butt (or anywhere else) with my Glock. Am I doing something wrong? :)

  4. When I joined the Army(1984), homosexuality was punishable under UCMJ. Chaplins were just as necessary to a units well-being as medics. Soldiers worked closely together as a team. Everyone believed that what we were doing was keeping America safe from our enemies(COMMUNISTS). Now gays are given the same benifits as real married couples. Chaplins are being persecuted. Soldiers are encouraged to be individuals. And the COMMUNISTS are running our country! Some would call this "Progress". Progress means moving forward. Do we really want to move forward when we are standing on the edge of a cliff? God help us Sergeant Major!

  5. I have the highest respect for the good people of California who choose to stay and  fight the good fight and resist the socialization of their state. They do exist. I know some. They are fighting an uphill battle (if not an un-winable one). I am also glad that my state still, for the most part, stands for personal liberty. The line in the sand may very well be drawn on the left coast by true freedom loving people who say "Enough!" When I read about new restrictions on firearms in California I imagine not a circus of commie clowns or uniformed stormtroopers, but a pressure gauge steadily climbing into the "red".

  6. I have a house that I rent out in Clarksville. The property management company who I went through told me that SEC 8 housing tenants are really great people who have an undeserved bad reputation. I still insisted on no SEC 8. I have friends and co workers who live in neighborhoods that used to be nice just a decade ago. Now one can't sell his house because of the thugs hanging around. Its not a stereotype, its a fact. Its not the race, its the mentality of the "people" who have no respect for where they live, their neighbors and themselves.

  7. Reading through this, I come away with two things.

    1.  What he did was completely legal.

    2.  What he did was completely stupid.

He was shot at when he pursued the robber after the robber was no threat to him.  Deliberately moving into a situation where you can be shot at when you have a choice not to (no lives are at risk, just property) is stupid.  I'm glad everything worked out for the best, but the story could have ended very differently.

That sums it up well, in my opinion.

  8. Flame me, burn me, castrate me, do what you want!

    Many Tennessee drivers are dangerous!

They make turns over double lines!

They turn on their turn signals,(if at all), at the last 30 feet before they turn!

They pull out in front of you, there is no car behind me  for 200 feet, WTF!  And it's not just me, they will pull out in front of any one! Why can't they wait 15 seconds and then pull out when it it safe!

Multiple lane changes, your a threat to every one!

Cell phone drivers, I hate you with a passion, put down the f''king phone, and just drive the car!

My fear of driving here is gone! But there are some very bad dangerous drivers out there!

    Rant over!

This is exactly why I gave up riding a motorcycle when I moved to Tennessee. Your rant speaks truth!
