I have just about determined that I want to increase to .308 rather than stay with 5.56. What recommendations do you all have in regards to what is good. As I haven't fired any of the .308 battle style rifles such as SOCOM 16 or SCAR 17S, I would like input towards what I should try out.

Local gun shop in my area had a couple of M&P 15s for under 800 two days ago. I would say that is a sure sign of lower prices and rising availability.

Welcome from a neighbor in New Market!

I took my class in April of 1997 and then shipped out for Basic Training and AIT at Fort Sill. When I returned home in Septemer, my shiny new permit was laying on the counter waiting for me. So going on 16 years for me.

Are you looking for IWB or OWB? I have a XD .45 Tactical and bought this holster for it from Tagua.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/190718932903...good sturdy leather, snug fit and hides fairly well under a loose shirt. Also have a Tagua slide holster for it.....used that for OC out west....
I prefer IWB but the length of the 5.25 may make that a bit impractical. In the holster that came with it, as I sit down in my jeep the bbl hits the seat and the gun lifts about a half inch in the holster as I sit. Of course the side of the seat are raised which doesn't help.
I started with an XD 9. When I got my XDm 45 I tried it in my favorite holster for the 9 and it fit well. I've found that all of the holster for my 9 fit my 45 just fine.
I will find some XD 9 holsters locally if possible and give that a try.

Info about your XDm........not to take you away from TGO of course......
Nothing can take me away from TGO...lol..no worries.
I've tried several manufacturers...Crossbreed for instance. When selecting the "model" for the holster order, my gun is not in the selection. When questioned about it the .45 apparently has larger dimensions than the 9 or 40. They have yet to offer one for mine. (as far as I have been able to determine thus far)
I've hit most of the big name manufacturers including Bianchi, Safariland, Crossbreed etc without finding anything specific. I will check out these links and see what I see.
Thanks for the links!

I've been looking for holsters for the XDm 5.25 in .45 ACP. Almost everything I have found is for the 9mm or the 40. (apparently according to several manufacturers these will not fit the .45) The gun came with a polymer paddle holster but I'm searching for other options.
Recommendations?

This guy is terrific. I follow his channel on Youtube because he presents his case in intelligent yet understandable dialog that leaves very few holes. Very smart fellow.

Welcome!..I also have a 642 that I carry as a back up to my primary. It has a pleasant "thump" when fired. Some people think it's a bit much but I find it comforting. It's very accurate for such a short bbl pistol as well.

I will admit that I have readily available firearms around the house, but luckily my kids are 14 and over and have been around firearms all their lives. When my son was young and curious I adopted a "never say no" policy when he asked to see them. As a result, he knew that he could see and shoot them anytime, all he had to do was ask and I would not say no. I would happily take him out and supervise his activity. Because he knew he could see them anytime (and I taught him safe handling and clearing) he never attempted to "sneak" and mess with my guns. There was no need because he was never denied supervised access.
The long and short is that education is imperative and execution is the best educator.
