  1. OR it could be argued that when people were told to sit down, shut up, and quit causing trouble, that they DID what they were told, and THAT is what caused the country to be in the mess it's in.

Non-violent Civil disobedience - I believe it is the best way to make a change to what many consider injustices.

    Off topic. Sorry.

    Be safe,

    Sean

Best argument I have seen. Rise up - Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war...

  2. Brian, it's probably a good thing TGO David doesn't have the same sadistic sense of humor I have... 'Cause at this point in the game, I'd ban you just because I could. And laugh every time I thought about it.

Why am I telling you this? Because I think you need to get a grip on how the world really works, and what yours or anybody else's actions can bring on.

And that's really all this whole thread is about; TMMT's actions, and what he brought on himself.

Anyway... Like what has been done, I'm done as well.

I'll check back later and see if this thread has a big fat lock on it, or if it's even still here.

    J.

I am aware of how the real world works. Special privileges, rights, treatment is given to some people and the others have to pay for it.

Was one person out of line? Maybe.

Did they post several topics regarding the abuse of power by a group of individuals sworn to uphold and protect the law? Maybe.

    Did they get warned? Maybe.

    Is it David's right? Sure.

Do I have to agree with it? No.

Do I support his right to do what he did? I think I stated that I supported the fact that it is his rules and we have to abide by them. I am only asking that he question that rule and re-think it a little.

This would go for ANY profession and not just law enforcement.

  3. Personally I don't see it as any group getting special treatment. There are other groups that get similar treatment such as the situation I mentioned, and I don't see it as "special treatment" at all. It's simply a manner in which to limit certain types of discussions here to non offensive, adult conversation. I agree that some folks are overly sensitive to certain comments and should just be able to read them and ignore them, but at the same time these comments should not be directed at those that are risking their lives for our protection. How would you feel about someone posting threads that always lead to the bashing of the soldiers of this country? Personally that kind of thing would more than piss me off, and shouldn't be tolerated either. So how is that any different?

Why should soldiers who commit atrocities and disgrace their uniform get a pass too? I was a member of the armed forces and it would enrage me to see them get special treatment if they did something wrong.

As long as the individual are directing comments towards the individuals memorialized in the new article there should be no reason for another to get upset.

If I said all LEO's suck and should be fired then I could understand why someone would take offense. If I state that the officer in question should be under investigation for not following procedure no one should take offense.

Same goes for military, lawyers, politicians, doctors, nurses, teachers etc.

And if the ban ax comes out so be it.

  4. That's right - this Borax box is awesome.

Warnings - fine. Etc. My point - If I come on here and start saying that lawyers suck and they should all be fired would I get the same treatment?

We have lawyers that are vendors on this board. Do they get special treatment too?

  5. Don't have to be hit in the head - trying to point out that separate is not equal and special certainly isn't equal either.

David's world - good on it. He wants to give special treatment to one group of people fine. I don't have to agree with it I just want you to understand that special is what got this country into the mess that it is in and we are perpetuating it here.

  6. Still not bashing cops. Talking about bad apples in general. We see government officials congressmen, senators doing wrong they should be called to the carpet (and frequently are on this forum) however there is one group that is untouchable.

My argument is that either they ALL should be untouchable or they should all be fair game. When you single one group out for special treatment that is how we get into trouble and how we got into trouble in this country.

We have equal rights or special rights - I'll take equal any day.

  7. I'm hoping you'll wake up an understand you're being obtuse, but I'm realizing that's not likely now.

First Amendment, really? You want to point out where your First Amendment rights are being trampled here?

He might, it's up to him.

Businesses are public, too, but if you do things the owner doesn't like, he can boot you as well.

Trust me, your wish is granted...

I don't have the right to say that LEO suck because they abuse their power.

  8. Are you not getting it or what?

Not sure why you think sharing your opinion over and over matters when the homeowner has already made his wishes clear.

Because the first amendment exists to allow me to share my opinion. Why do you get to share yours over and over? What makes your opinion more important then mine?

It's called a civil discussion. We should be able to have them.

While this is David's forum it is a public forum. Anyone has the ability to join. David wants to get rid of me too? So be it.

I just can't stand protecting someone because of the job they do.

If you don't like it don't listen - ignore me. That's fine by me.

  9. I agree as well, however I feel that the solution to the "bashing" problem is to post your news article and lock the damn thread. That way people can read what is going on but you don't have the pile on crap going on.

That would be a much better option than banning a person for being anti-LEO.

Then again - civil conversation would be the best option.

Everyone needs to remember something they were taught in grade school -

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.

Some one can only make you feel inferior if you let them.

If you are doing your job and doing it to the best of your ability there is no reason why you should be upset when someone points out that one of your co workers is a screw up.

  10. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to that one person. It just seems to be a growing trend with people getting nailed with the anti-leo label.

Again - my opinion. That and $1.10 will get you a large soda at McDonald's.

These are not the droids you are looking for and you may go back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Personally I take tea/water/coffee etc to the LEO when they are doing speed enforcement in our neighborhood. I don't have a problem with LEO I just don't think that they should be treated with kid gloves.

  11. The site has gone through a lot of changes since it started. Was a lot more laid back in the beginning.

Sure - people got banned - Rabbi anyone? but it wasn't for the same reasons.

I will probably take your advice but then again. If everyone agrees on everything where are we?

  12. some of the topics to be praised would fall into specific subforums here, others like this topic for example fit nicely into Off Topic. There is a difference between bashing and criticism.

The Off Topic area is my favorite far and away. It allows members to bond on likes and dislikes other than firearms and firearm accessories. I believe the Off Topic area is a huge contributor to TGO's success.

And I agree with you on this. This is where topics such as a police officer shooting a marine outside of a bar. A police officer searching an individual simply because he knew the person usually carried firearms illegally. A doctor amputating the wrong leg. An Air Force member jumping through fire to save a puppy. If we are going to tell you you cannot start a thread regarding one topic you shouldn't be able to start a thread about the other.

As long as the dislike is not about the LEO's it's okay for the off topic area. That's fine.

I am prior military. I come from a long family tradition of military service. On memorial day there was a thread thanking military/leo etc for their service. Should this be banned also? After all we wouldn't want to offend people that are against the military.

Would we respond the same if there was a thread saying that Obama searched a person because he thought they were carrying a gun illegally? We bash him left and right and that is okay.

I understand that we have vendors that make money off of the LEO as well as the other members of this forum and we wouldn't want that business hurt because a few bad apples. But when the Shoe Fits and the "bash" is deserved I think we need to call them out on it. When praise is deserved we should give it. Giving the government/law enforcement/medical profession etc a pass simply because that is the way it is and we don't want to "offend" anyone is why we are in the position we are these days.

Remember - and then they came for me......

Stand up - be heard that is how we got restaurant carry passed.

Stand up - be heard that is how we got the right to carry in the first place.

David - it's your world. That's fine. I just think we should be fair to BOTH sides. If there is an abundance of "bashing" then sure - ban the person. But maybe - just maybe there is some justification of the "bash".

As to disciplining my children - I make the rules and the rules go. David makes the rules and the rules go.

If you have a child that continually misbehaves then you punish them more severely but I cannot tell one child you cannot say something bad about this person but you can say wonderful things about them. That is inconsistent as well.

Humble is accepting praise without arrogance and character is doing the right thing when no one is looking. When people are looking and you do the wrong thing you deserve to be called out on it.

    That's my opinion.

Honestly if a person doesn't want to be on TGO because there are too many cops, they sound like the kind of person who has something they're worried about and I wouldn't want them here anyway.

I have nothing to worry about from the police either. I just don't think someones profession deserves a pass from scrutiny. Yes - the majority of LEO are fine upstanding individuals and would never do anything outside of their authority but again - they should be the ones screaming the loudest when something is wrong.

And I am certainly not a socialist...

  13. I support the decision only in the fact that it is TGO David's world and we all just play here.

I would suggest however that if we are truly a firearm community devoted to discussing firearms that we do not allow posts PRAISING anything other than firearms. To be 100% fair. It is not fair to ban someone (whether they repeatedly flamed etc) for "bashing" a particular group however you allow members to continually praise that same group.

We are either about firearms or not...

    That's my opinion.

  14. Let's see. You obviously have to go by Cafe Du Monde for Bigneits and coffee. Just mind the powdered sugar it goes every where.

The Royal Blend (on Royal at Toulouse) is a great coffee shop as well.

Most of the haunts I used to go to closed after Katrina.

The aquarium is nice but not exactly cheap and don't go packing - while there aren't metal detectors it is posted. The insectarium is in a federal building with metal detectors, don't even try a knife there.

There was a place down Magazine street called Cafe Roma that had GREAT Italian food.

Bourbon is a pick pocket paradise.

If anyone wants to tell you where you got your boots keep walking.

Learn to combat walk as well. That's where you keep your head down and just walk.

Obviously Jackson Square is a place to go as well as the French Market.

If you want to see a pottery shop/gallery let me know. My cousin owns/runs one down there. It moved since the last time I was there so I can't give you exact directions.

Last time I went we ate at IHOP and Arby's so I am not sure of the other good places. If you want I can check with my family about other things to do but give me an idea of interests.

The WWII museum was really cool too. I highly recommend it.

Get a good shrimp or oyster po-boy for me.

    Where are you staying?

  15. I am just curious if maybe simply locking the post wouldn't have been a better way to go. It is possible that some people didn't read the news story and only would have heard about it here. It was a tragedy that a member of the armed forces was killed simply for talking to a female. I know there may have been more to the story but there are only two people who know the truth and one of them is dead. I didn't know about it until I heard about it here.

Did the original poster of the article get a PM stating that the thread would be locked?
