  1. My first handgun I carried last year was a HighPoint 380. This year it's a Diamondback Full Size 9mm.  Have shot both at the range many times without a single FTF, FTE or misfire.  Being over 70 I don't really care what people think about me or what I have anymore.

  2. Hi Guys,
Just got a DB FS Nine today at a local gun shop.  Will go to the range next week, but just had a few questions for those familiar with this model:

    1) Recommendations on brands of 9mm ammo that you found works better than others?

    2) Suggestions on an outside belt holster?  Just see a "Fobus S&W M&P 9mm,.40,.45, SD 9 &40, CZ, Diamondback DB FS Nine Evolution Holster" on the Internet. Comments?

    3) Where can I get an extra magazine?

    4) The way the safety is in the trigger, is there extra danger in carrying with a round in the chamber?

Would appreciate any comments on my new handgun.

    Thanks,
    Jim

  3. I don't know a lot. But, I do know that anybody that open caries a Hi Point should probably be kicked in the balls.

I'm a retired senior and a vet, who CC around the neighborhood and OC around the house/yard. I put over 400 rounds through my handgun so far at the range with absolutely no problems at all and it is very accurate.  It is a little heavy but I carry it fine as I do not have a red neck beer belly.  It's not as 'pretty' and expensive as you guys handguns, but it is reliable and does the job of protecting my family as it was designed to do. Oh BTW, it's a Hi Point.

  4.                          My father carried a Garand in 1945 in the battle for Manila. I had a chance to buy one in the early 70s for $100.  I wish I had. They cost too much now.

My dad was around Subic Bay, Clark field and ManiIa right before the war ended in the Army Air Corp. I wish I had a M1 Garand too. They do cost too much for me also since I'm retired and on a fixed income.

  5. Check into Civilian Marksmanship Program Garands. Its the best deal out there for these great rifles.

I made the trip to the CMP South store in Anniston, Alabama some years back and it was well worth the drive. They will loan you bore and chamber gauges so you can hand pick the one you want.

I found a nice rifle that gauged out as a Service Grade, but was marked as a Field Grade due to a dirty and oil stained stock. It cleaned up very well and is a great shooter.

I also got a M1 Carbine from CMP a few years ago. However, I think those are all sold out.

WOW! Really fantastic.  I did look at CMP and wish I had the $ for one.

  6. I was at the indoor range at Ashland City today. There's a shop there that sell new and used weapons. I picked up and handled an M1 Garand rifle. I don't remember it being that heavy while carrying one during Army basic training in '62. It was an amazingly accurate rifle at long distances.  It was really neat firing rifle grenades from the Garand at rubber tanks downrange, and the bayonet training.  Just touching this one just brought back some great memories.

  7. My step son, who has a carry permit, was taking a walk a few blocks from the house when a car pulled up not far from him.  I guy got out and walked towards him swinging a bat and demanding his money.  Don't know the words my step son used, but when the perp seen that he had a gun he left in a hurry. Since my wife and I often take walks in the neighborhood, I ordered a gun and got my own carry permit. Better safe then sorry.

  8. I'm not implying anything by this this question, I am genuinely curious. Did you really carry a Garand in the Army?

Sure did. I carried the M1 Garand during basic training in '62.  It was heavy but you got use to it quick.  It was damm accurate at the range and fun as heck firing the grenade launcher at "tanks" made out of rubber tires, and at bayonet training:)    :usa:

  9. Nope nope, that wont do at all. If you don't carry a Glock, and it has to be a .45acp, then your better off with a sharp stick. Now you can get away with carrying a 1911, of course a .45acp because 1911fakes in 9mm are illegal and Un-American. Use the 1911 to fight your way back to your Glock 21 in .45acp. If you pay attention to the movies you will learn that if you shoot someone with a 9mm or .380 they will laugh at you, but if you shoot them with a .45 it knocks them back 10 feet through a plate glass window onto the street.

Actually, I would like to carry the M1 Garand that I did in the Army. If I wanted to knock someone through a plate glass window I could just put on the grenade launcher.   :usa:

  10. Law is neutral on the matter, but clearly states that Glocks suck carried with either method. :hiding:

Don't have no Glock.  I have a .380acp brand that everyone makes fun of, even the instructor at the start of the required HCP class.  But after I shot 100 rounds with no problems at all and scored a 95% on target, the instructor just rolled his eyes and bit his tongue.   :pleased:

  11. If you read the law closely, you'll find that it is now your duty to strap on a pistol and immediatly proceed to the nearest Wal Mart for your inaugural "WallyWorld Walk".

Yes Sir   Does the law say which way it's my duty to carry immediately in WallyWorld - openly or concealed?    :ugh:  :woohoo: he,he,he  Just kidding

  12. If you are a little nervous about carrying be sure to do the Wally Walk in Dickson. That's a good way to get used to carrying and most all people in Walmart, especially in Dickson don't care. Remember, Tennessee doesn't require that you conceal your handgun either.

BTW, I got my new HCP today also so I am good from 8-18-14 till 8-18-18. Actually I had till October 28 before my old one expired.

I am a little nervous about carrying in public for the first time but think it will be ok over some time.  Got to remember not to nervously fiddle or adjust the shirt or holster in public.  Been carrying around the house, while the wife is at work, just to get use to the weapon and holster.

  13. HCP arrived in the mail today!  Took the class/range on 8/2, DMV paperwork on 8/4, fingerprints on 8/5, and the permit arrived on 8/18.  Want to get some more range time in soon.   Carrying comes with an awesome responsibility to only use the weapon in your defense when you are in immediate danger of severe injury or lost of life.  Jim
