  1. I've killed a good many hogs with a 22 LR...a few huge ones weighing over 700 lbs.

Mind you, these were farm raised hogs (you know...pork, bacon, ham, etc.) and I shot them in the side of the head while they were in a chute (of sorts). I used a pistol to kill all those hogs, a High Standard 9 shot 22 revolver...but I would never dream of using it to "hunt" wild hogs, too much can (and will eventually) go wrong.

Some may say the 45-70 is too much gun for hogs (or deer and black bear)...but I don't recall ever killing anything "too dead". The round can be loaded to suit the purpose (from mouse to moose)...

The 44 Mag would work quite good too, as would a 45 Colt.

  2. Ridgerunner, Very Cool!! You should consider posting this at MarlinOwners.com They would love it.

    It is posted there...

Thats where I got the GBL stock and forearm. I traded with a guy that wanted a walnut GBL

  3. My boar rifle (and deer rifle and bear rifle)...Marlin 1895, not a Guide Gun.

    The load...

    405 grain Beartooth LFN/GC

    Rem brass

    CCI BR2 primer

    50 grains of H322

2.55" OAL (seat to crimp groove and then crimp it good)

1,886 fps from that 22" barrel.

100 yard group...only 4 shots, ran out of ammo

    Boar gun...

  4. Yep, it's plastic, but, I've shot the XD 45 service, really sweet.

The 45 compact is only different as to smaller grip/capacity, but 10+1 plus a 13 round backup is nothing to sneeze at in a rock solid performer!

Yep...my wife really likes her XD 45 Compact.

  5. I have 1 of every shirt offered by the NRA on the online store, my son (16 years old) has a few too, my wife has several as well.

Do I wear them ALL THE TIME??? No

But I do wear them often, and I wear them proudly...It is not meant to advertise that I am carrying a gun (even though I am carrying one...or 2)...It is meant to advertise my political point of view, and to say that I'M NOT ASHAMED OF IT.

I wear mine to work, out around town, pretty much anywhere...my son wears one of his to school, its the one that says "The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" because that one has no guns pictured, if it had pics of guns on it they would not let him wear it...they don't like it, but they can't really stop it and besides, I don't really care what they do or don't like. They won't be "influencing" my son with their twisted views...and they know it.

I went to the last parent teachers conference wearing the one that says "Family, Freedom & Firearms...Welcome To My World" (several guns pictured on it too)...my sons ROTC teacher (a marine) just smiled and said "Give em hell"...

I'm not an anarchist or anything of the sort...but I'm Free to speak my mind ANYWHERE. I'm well versed, well educated, well dressed (IMO), and I'm all too eager to debate the subject of Freedom and/or firearms with anybody...anybody.

  6. I've driven that road more times than I can count (OTR truck driver for 14 years).

I26 is complete from Asheville to Charleston...its 267 miles and it will take you about 4 hours or so if you don't hit any rush hour traffic anywhere.

EDIT: Oops ...I thought you meant from Asheville to Charleston...from JC it 325 miles about 5.5 hours.

  7. They were not supposed to be there...PERIOD.

Doesn't matter if they were directing traffic or interrogating prisoners. Give an inch and sooner or later they will take a mile.

As to punishing the soldiers...yes, they should know that what they did was wrong. I'm not saying dishonorable discharge or anything, just something to make the point.

Now, the highest ranking individual (whoever that may be) that is responsible for sending them there should be PUNISHED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.

  8. Putting the Fed's in their place is not "dismantling" the United States....its getting it back to what it was meant to be.

Its not the states turning on each other...its the states turning on the Fed's.

Meaning...the states are (and will be) UNITED.

How did so many people come to believe that the United States existed solely because the Federal government said it could...its the other way around people, the Federal government exists solely because The People of the United States said it could...and its job was clearly stated to be "FOREIGN AFFAIRS". (not domestic tyranny)

  9. jackdog,

Excellent posts every one...right on the money. The Federal government has a place and a purpose but as is so often the case when you give somebody some power...they want more and more power.

Its the nature of man...(the weak minded ones anyway)

Slavery is gone and I'm glad it is...but now we have to fight the good fight for our other rights before it is too late...and when state governments start recognizing the fact that our rights are being eroded you can bet your bottom dollar that its time to speak up about it...therein lies OUR power, the power of WE THE PEOPLE of the United States of America...

If we fail to use that power then we just give it all away...we can avoid the real fight by simply flexing our muscles now (our muscles being...support for the good guys in state government)

  10. Well I got tired of looking for an XD 45 Compact and decided to get the Tactical Compact (5" barrel, short grip)...the more I fondled it, the more I liked it. It is a tad more accurate than my wife's Compact...I decided to stop at 3 rounds, it was too good to mess it up. :tinfoil: (then I tore the target when I took it down)

Pistols are like people...they only get 1 chance to make a first impression...this made a good impression on me. Those are the first 3 rounds I fired through it at a 15 yard target (my reloads)

It carries nicely OWB...but may be a tad long for IWB.

    XDTactical.jpg

  11. At the risk of getting myself in trouble...(something that commonly follows speaking your mind)

Tungsten, would you rather we let the Fed run everything?

This is NOT about anarchy or overthrowing the government...its about making it clear to the federal government what power they have and what power they do not have.

Right now they (the fed government) are operating under the premise that they have ALL the power...which is not true. The Civil War was not fought over slavery...it was fought over States Rights (though, at the time slavery was one of them) and nobody wants slavery anymore...but we DO want our rights and state governments are the only thing standing up for them right now.

These two bills are simply the legal means of reminding the federal government of that.

If he bans me for that...it was nice knowing you guys.

  13. I know its the wrong caliber...but the XD 45 Compact is perfect for carry...not too big, not too small, short grip, heavy hitter.

I am a hardcore 1911 guy, but I just bought my wife a 45 Compact a few days ago...and that lil pistol has impressed me, so much so that now I'm shopping for one for me...it will be my carry gun when I find another one.
