Anyone here even know what the speculated or proposed development would be for this property?
I dont, but i do know it's in doo doo town.
I mean, if they wanted to take even half the low income housing out of my area and rebuild it there, I'd donate labor to start the demolition. ;)
I'm gonna have to agree, with whomever, that there are better ways to use our scarce resources than to continue to maintain this large crap hole of a property that serves a very small percentage of the county.
Those gun shows suck and the state fair there sucks and the garden show there sucks.
On the other hand, I'd like for the property to produce revenue for the city, whether that's selling it into private hands or whatever. I hope to not see it packed full of low income or section 8 housing that would in turn require its own police precinct to manage the crime in what is already the dregs.
Obviously, there is more going on at the fairgrounds then you are aware of. -
To be clear though, they are not saying the firearms were purchased from a dealer. They simply say they were purchased at the gun show. The implication being it was a person to person transaction where there was no background check, therefore a felon was able to get a gun more easily than if they were forced to go through a background check.
The direct logic is correct of course if one believes a felon will follow the law to begin with even if backgrounds checks were mandatory. We all know that isn't the case.
I am personally not against background checks, but they should be free and easily accessible for anyone who wants to do one. It should simply state if the person is legal or not to purchase with something as simple as a DL and DOB. If they want people to do it on thier own free will, they need to make it easy to check and free.
I don't believe the direct logic is correct. People who cannot legally buy guns from a dealer (not only felons) can buy them on the side of the road from an individual. I think your statements give credibility to the "gun show loophole" which in no way exists. People privately selling or buying guns at the gun show is no different than two people meeting to do a firearm transaction at the Kroger parking lot or at Basspro (pick your location). -
Logic does not exist with anti-gunners!

I am actually under contract now to purchase a home. This will be third home purchase. I did not hire an inspector for the first two homes. If you a family member or good friend who knows houses , you may be better off than hiring an inspector. Like it has been stated previously in this thread, the disclaimers on the inspector contracts are lengthy and pretty much relieve them of any real liability. I hired my first inspector on this third purchase (under contract and not closed yet) and was surprised how many things he found I would consider cosmetic, but he did find things "wrong" that I'm positive the current homeowner didn't even know about like loose fasteners on the metal roof, ants in the crawl space, rotten brick moulding on balcony door, etc....You know stuff that you just may not know about unless by chance...... Good luck and remember it is a "buyers market"

Have the contents list, reb?

Wondering if anyone has shot on of these. They look like super nice guns, and cheaper than a Kimber, but made from a forged steal slide and frame.
Love your thoughts.
C3
They got the name of the LW version right.

I kinda wanna trade my G26 for a P238
These just look so GOOD...any feedback. Whats the chances i can work out a good trade with a dealer around here. The G26 prob has 500-700 rounds through it
You'd be giving up capacity and power like others have said.
However, I'm with you that the P238's are cool. I don't want to carry one though. I just like them b/c they resemble the 1911 so much.

After doing a crazy amount of researching and gun shop visiting, I think I have just about settled on what I'm going to get. Originally I was aiming for something like a SA GI45, but I really like the better options that the Loaded has.
The model# I'm looking at is PX9109LP, Parkerized Loaded. The prices I keep seeing are $750-850.
After looking at a few other brands such as Kimber, I just couldn't help but be discouraged by the number of people who have mentioned how many finniky little problems they come with in the last few years. My best gun friend has two and both have taken a lot of work to get them right, on top of the not so cheap price tag he paid for them. I also checked out Taurus, which seemed to have the best features for the money. But I have read enough about the customer service + warranty horror stories to leave that one alone. I have read a lot of reviews about people who love their Kimbers and Tauri. I just don't hear nearly as much flak hitting Springfield as I do with these others. (This is not meant as a bash as I have no experience with any of these - it's only my observations in my research!)
I seem to run across very good reviews of Springfields 1911s all around and I have been advised that Springfield has top notch customer service for when their guns do have a hiccup.
What do you all think about the Springfield Loaded? Anything I should be aware of with them in particular or with the company? It's very hard for a newbie to 1911s to know which (affordable) brand to pick. Thanks to everyone for advice.
You can't go wrong with a Springfield 1911.
Is it the best buy for the money? It really boils down to what you like. I like my Kimbers, but they are older (not produced in the last two years). The Taurus for the price is tempting ,but I have no experience with their 1911's, however I think they are making some quality stuff now.

I have a Dan Wesson pm9 I bought new in about 2003. I don't carry it. It shoots great though. Man have those things gotten pricey!

Prices for single sixes have risen alot over the last few years. 295 isn't bad with both cylinders and in like new conditon.

Charles Daly and Wilson Combat have both made polymer framed 1911 style pistols.Although the Wilson was in 9mm and apparently hated by all.
I have shot a polymer framed .45 acp Wilson Combat. Believe it is the KZ-45. It shot great.

Does anyone here have much experience hunting at AEDC? I was drawn for the Nov 7/8 hunt...
On the state website, it lists the hunt as shotgun/muzzleloader/archery. Does this mean that I can hunt with a shotgun during my draw hunt even though it is only muzzleloader statewide?
Thanks!
Went hunting there about four years ago. Saw some sign but not any deer. It seemed like the way people were hunting is by driving. Hunters would load up their semi shotguns and then do a drive. One guy got shot that year too .That' s not hunting to me ,but overall it was good trip. I would find some food plots and hunt near those. A gentleman I know who is in his 80's said (he's been to AEDC hunting multiple times) he's seen the biggest buck ever at AEDC.

what is the best way to age a deer? do you just go by how large the base of the antlers are? i know once you shoot them you can look at the teeth and tell by how much they are worn down(not quite sure what to look for though), any good ides or pointers on how to tell the age? both from the scope and up close?
I would stick with aging deer on the hoof by their bodies and not their antlers in TN.
A good way is their back and belly lines. You will have a older deer (4 plus) if his back and belly are swayed instead of straight across.
Also pay attention to where their necks meet their chests. Older deer (3 or older) will have less definition where the neck meets the chest i.e. older mature deer will have a neck and chest that just flow together due to the neck being so large.
For more info, there is a good thread at tndeer with pictures to help age bucks on the hoof

Well it looks like im going to have to let my daughter use my ar to hunt with me this year but I have no ideal what grain bullet to use on deer (didnt buy it to hunt with) so any suggestions would be appreciated
Oh yeah barrel is 1-9 twist 20inch.
(Yeah I know its misspelled)
I would go as heavy or almost as heavy as you can get for the round.
Shot placement is key. Buy some quality ammo and let her practice alot.

Any thoughts, opinions or experience with them?
I saw one at a gun shop and was really wanting one until I found out that they have stopped making them. Now I am kind of on the fence. Worried about getting repair parts and spare mags. I know that Wilson still makes the mags but for how much longer. Does anybody know if another mag (like maybe Para) will fit.
Also how is the warentee with Wilson Combat? Will they take custom orders for parts?
A friend let me shoot his Wilson KZ45 about 6 years ago. I was impressed and would buy one if I found the right deal. The only downside is the mags. Obviously being double stack they aren't a dime a dozen like standard 1911 mags. Sorry, I'm not sure about other 1911 double stacks being interchangeable.

I love the Ultra Carry II's. I would like to find one in stainless, 3" barrel, with crimson trace laser, and the red wood grips.
What's the difference in the Ultra Carry II and the Ultra CDP II? Is it just a matter of options or what? I think they make one with a full stainless body. That's what I'd like, but I can't find the options I want.
Where's a good place to get the best price on what I want? thanks!!
Sounds like you're wanting a carry pistol. The aluminum framed models (CDP and others) aren't a bad idea since they save some weight compared to steel frame models.

I really want a Model 66 .357 and I'm considering trading my G19 for one. Just wanted to know if anyone has both and compare size and weight. Or just think this a bad idea. Thanks
Apples and oranges.
66 is 6 shots of 38/357, K frame Smith and Wesson, rather heavy compared to a Glock 19
Glock 19 is a semi auto 9mm high capacity capable (15 I think)
I personally would take a Smith 66. Just my opinion. Get what you like.

Browning Hi-Power
Yes, a Browning High Power.

One of the most important things is scent. It's OK if you have to store your ground blind inside your house or a storage shed just make sure to let it sit out overnight (to air out) at a minimum before taking it into the field for your hunt. It also will not hurt to spray it down with scent killer before the hunt.
-
Blinds aren't as popular as tree stands here, but with practice and preparation, you can be very effective hunting whitetail from a ground blind. And just like hunting from a stand , it is much more difficult to harvest a whitetail with a bow vs. other legal weapons.....
I personally love hunting out of a ground blind and it is my first choice.

Small risk ($200) vs. Huge Rewards
It's really an easy decision for me. I'll get my son one
when he arrives.

Why would you not use one with good bullets like Federal Hydra Shoks or something made for stopping/neutralizing someone?
I love the 10mm round.

"Golden Rods" may be the ticket, but I would check them regularly. I was helping a friend of mine move. He opened the safe to start moving guns and his family heirloom Browning A-5 was covered all over with rust. He thought the "golden rod" was doing the job. Evidently it stopped working for one reason or another. I've always used the dessicant packs in a safe that sits in a basement. Has worked for years so I'll stick to what works.
