  1. Wow, what a sad life you must live... willing to compromise your principals just because somebody asks you a private question which is none of their business?

I'm sorry, but I don't need a job bad enough (not even in this economy) to let somebody at work force me to answer private questions, or demean myself by lying to them. I can always find another job, but I can't get back my dignity or honor.

As for the 17 year old, and what he said, I'd be marching down to the school the next day and filing a formal complaint against the teacher before they even called me about the cursing issue. While a minor at school might not have constitutional protections (don't even get me started) I for sure have freedom of speech and I'd have more than a few choice words to describe said teacher.

My point is that sometimes the fight isn't worth it. By refusing to answer that question, getting mouthy about it, or attacking that school with lawyers, you will no doubt bring the entire schools attention to the fact that you DO have guns in the house. A simple "no" would have made the situation go away and no one would know who to rob, which as stated above was a big reason for not bragging about what you have in your house. Then you could quiety complain to the principal. There is a difference between comprising your principles and "what they don't know won't hurt them." While the kid stood his ground, he also very clearly told his classmates that there ARE guns in his house.

I've lost a few jobs for speaking my mind... and almost none of the arguments were worth it in the end. 2 months without a paycheck is a much sadder life than simply keeping your mouth shut. Its not very much fun going to the range when you can't afford to pay for your bills, let alone ammunition. It would be better to quietly look for another job if your principles are truly being comprised.

  2. If he actually said "none of your damn business," I would expect trouble to follow. A simple "I decline to answer" would have been more appropriate ... then he didn't do anything wrong and if he got in trouble you would have a complaint. "Im not comfortable answering that" would be another option. "Please contact my parents if that is a problem."

I absolutely agree this should be off limits... but you can't curse at your teacher without trouble. Good luck whatever your next step is... but be professional in your argument, it will go much further than attitude will. I probably just would have answered no and been done with it.

  3. You may think the Cosmoline is gone, but after you shoot a few rounds it gets hot enough to seep out. That's most often the cause of "sticky bolt" syndrome in these rifles.

I used a bore brush attached to my drill to clean the last bit from the chamber when this happened on my first Mosin. Saw that on a surplus rifle forum somewhere. I was sure I had it thoroughly cleaned, but I still had the sticky bolt, and therefore cosmoline.

Eventually, you will shoot it all out... but that may take awhile and a sticky bolt strips a lot of fun out of these rifles.

  4. What about youtube videos? If an author has locked out embedding, then the youtube video automatically will not play any place except in youtube. Presumably authors who have not locked out embedding are attention hounds who would appreciate the publicity? Not arguing any point. Just wondering if the risk is so bad that not even youtube videos can be embedded.

Youtube is designed so that you can embed the videos using their code... their logos and links are embedded into the video and plays are tracked accordingly. A Youtube video is fair game, as long as you stick to their embed code.

  5. this post is not to single anyone out, but just happned to be the very next link I clicked on.

Am I missing something or isn't this the exact same example we are being told not to do?

I am just like others wanting clarrification.

    Thanks

That sounds EXACTLY like what is forbidden. I read the entire article, including an update, without ever visiting the originating website.

  6. I personally don't mind clicking a link to check out the article... might as well show them the courtesy of visiting their website if I want to read the article. If nothing else, it will give their site stats a boost. Yes it's a pain to open a new browser tab and load a new page, but I can deal with it.

As popular as some of the forums are, the copied verbatim article could end up in a search engine result before the newspaper's own website... that isn't fair. Theoretically, a small newspaper could end up getting no credit or recognition from a story even though it became extremely popular online.

  7. I would say that is an observation, not feedback.

    What would be your solution?

    I have a few options:

    1. Don't offer carry handles for sale

    2. Offer U.S. made carry handles for 75 to 90 bucks each

    3. Continue to offer an imported carry handle at a fair price but not mention the fact that the item is made in Asia

    4. Leave things as they are.

I am open to suggestions, but keep in mind, I am in the business of making/selling Battle Mugs, not carry handles.

They are offered on my website as a convenience

At the very least remove this from your homepage as to avoid such confusion...

"1. 100% MADE IN THE USA! Yeah, we get pissed when we see fan-boys buying stuff made in China"

Am I understanding correctly that the mug does not come with a handle at all?
