  1. JW is not a bad place to start, but please go for the black label and stay away from the red. JW even admits that it is a mixer. Glenlivet 12 yr and Balvinie 12 yr Doublewood are also good starters. The flavor profiles of scotch vary immensely with different distillers and each region has its own characteristics. I would recommend trying a lot of different types to find out what style you like. There are also tons of resources and reviews online.

  2. This was the season I've been worried about. So far, the series has kept remarkably close to the books, but after Season 4/Book 3, the story doesn't seem as TV ready as before.

For starters, books 4&5 occur at the same time, and are split between geographic areas, meaning the main characters split as well. Not having some of the main characters for an entire season won't fly in the TV show obviously. Also, the story slows down a bit in books 4&5 to account for the aftermath of the wars, and set up the finishing books, so I expect them to put some dramatic flare into the TV show to keep things interesting.

I'm cautiously optimistic in my hopes that HBO doesn't screw things up.

I have heard rumors the books and show are going to split ways a bit this season. GRRM said there will be surprises this season for both the show watchers and the book readers.
  3. Not a Glock is right. There must be a reason the 35,000 member NYPD banned Kahr as an off duty gun for officer use. I want something that is going to work
and not break parts/malfunction when you need it.

Just because NYPD won't let officers carry Kahr off-duty does not mean it is an unreliable gun. Metro Nashville PD has the same restrictions for several manufacturers including H&K and FN.
  4. I think that having multiple calibers to shoot at the range is half the fun. I really enjoy shooting less popular calibers and older firearms. I could see a benefit to keeping your personal defense weapons that you are going to practice frequently down to one caliber, but I don't think that I could consolidate my whole collection. Variety is the spice of life!

  5. It really depends on where you are in Franklin.

Go to www.tvfool.com and put in your address and it will generate a radar plot that looks like this:

It will give you an idea of what kind of antenna you will need. I'm in Thompsons Station and I get all of the channels north of me with a Channel Master CM4228HD in my attic and a amplifier. I can also pickup a number of the southern station out of Huntsville if I point the antenna south.

The main channels I get are:
    ABC
    NBC
CBS - This one can be a little spotty
    FOX
    CW
    ION
    PBS

Thanks a bunch! I'm in Cools Springs so hopefully I will be able to get at least as many as you do. Thanks for the antenna recommendation also!
  6. I ordered a GTMU free float quad rail from MAS Defense a few weeks ago.  When I went to install it, the set screw that secures the handguard to the barrel nut would not break loose.  I ended up rounding out the hex head and had to use an extractor to get the dang screw out.  I think that it was either severely over tightened from the factory or cross-threaded.  I called MAS Defense and let them know what happened.  They offered to put a new set screw in the mail at no charge.  This is the second time that I have ordered from them.  They have good prices, fast shipping, great customer service!
