  1. So sad! The first concert that I ever went to was when she was performing at the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson, MS in the mid seventies. My wife and I also saw her in concert at one of the Tunica casinos several years ago. She still put on a great performance then. 😢

  2. A couple of things to point out.

    1. Sales tax is technically collected from the buyer, so the sellers aren’t directly bearing any sales tax cost…there is of course an indirect cost of dealing with the administrative burden of collecting and reporting said tax.

    2. 1099 reporting has always been used to report gross sales, not net profit. The threshold for reporting sales of goods has now been lowered to the same level as sales of services has been for years.

    3. 1099 reported income is generally reported as sales on Schedule C of form 1040, then you deduct all of your expenses and cost of goods sold…obviously, you’ll need to have documentation support for the expenses if you get audited. If you have net income, then you’ll owe tax, if you don’t have net income (in other words, you have a net loss), then you won’t pay any tax. This has nothing to do with itemized or standard deductions.

You know I really want to like Irish, and I've got a couple of decent bottles including Clontarf, but it just seems my tastebuds keep demanding a bourbon fix.

A good starting point for better Irish Whiskey for bourbon drinkers is Jameson Black Barrel. It’s made using recharred barrels, so you get more of the barrel influence as opposed to the regular Jameson that is just aged in used barrels without any extra charring.

My tastebuds start calling for my gag reflex whenever I try to drink a bourbon. Luckily, there’s plenty of both of our preferred spirits for us to kill our livers with.

Have you tried Gentleman Jack, Basil Hayden or Angels Envy? Those are all lighter style bourbons/Tennessee whiskeys that are “smoother” than many other bourbons. Obviously, they are still very different from the lighter flavor profile of Irish Whiskey, but I find them to be good recommendations for entry level bourbons for new bourbon drinkers.

I am a lover of all spirits, but I want quality and some age on most of the things I drink. I might have a single malt scotch one night, a bourbon another night, rum the next, etc., etc. It’s all good if you find the right bottles.

OK...question time. I've searched and found a few references to Tullamore Dew, and Irish Whiskey in several forms. I'd like to know a little about it, if anyone has a comment.

I ran across the name whilst trying to write a witty Irish style toast for my brother-in-law's birthday. Actually, I butchered and cobbled together some lines from standard Irish toasts and added a few lines of my own for flavor and to personalize it.

Anyway, I worked Tullamore Dew into a few lines and think it came out good.

So that led me to start wondering about tasting it. lol

Not much of a drinker, but this has piqued my interests...and made my tasted buds wish to sample it.

Supposedly some Nashville area liquor stores have it(some) available, and I'll risk a drive Monday to see what's out there.

BTW, I'd post the toast here, as I'm sorta proud of it, but as it's pretty personal, and sadly probably going to be his last birthday, I won't. It did have my wife in tears, so I guess I did something right.

I've been told I can sometimes write/tell a good story. But it's mostly just being a good manure spreading artist.

    Anyway...comments/recommendations are always appreciated.

I assume you’ve bought and tried Tullamore DEW by now, but if you haven’t, I definitely prefer it over regular Jameson.

There's still plenty of opportunities to use a C&R, but it's in the secondary markets now.  There are a lot of collectors out there buying many guns per year off their 03 license ...

Oh, I’m fully aware of that, but I got most of the C&R guns that I wanted through the surplus market years ago. The prices in the secondary market have gotten pricey, and many sellers don’t want to accept C&R licenses, so they force you to go through an FFL in order to buy from them anyway. I just got tired of messing with the hassle of it given the few purchases that I made after my last renewal, so I decided it was easier for me to just let my C&R license lapse. There’s not much that I want that I don’t already have that is C&R eligible, and if I find something from a local individual, I don’t have to worry about any of it (currently) in a face to face transfer between TN residents.

The days of "much" being imported are over.  There are some occasional shipments trickling in, mostly from private sales overseas to locators for bonded importers, they make a lot of treks around Europe seeking out old milsurps for sale on the private market and when they have enough stockpiled to make a shipment, they send them over.  Apparently a very small shipment of Mosins made it in from Ukraine last year, and a few similar rifles from the former Yugoslavia states and Albania have also made it over in the last 2 or 3 years, but it's a tiny trickle, at best ...

That’s why I let my C&R license lapse...just wasn’t enough use for it anymore.

My wife's cousin had one of those AMT Backup .380. It was a good little gun. I think it shot good and ran good. In my opinion a lot better than a Lorcin, Jennings, Davis, and probably several others. And this is coming from a Hi-Point owner. I've had no problems what so ever out of my Hi-Point.

If you are talking about Lorcin, Jennings and Davis pistols in calibers larger than .32acp, I agree with you, although Lorcins of any caliber can be problematic. The camouflage one in my collection pictures is one of the better Lorcin models made because the frame was made from an aluminum alloy instead of being made from zinc alloy like most Lorcins.
