  1. Aw, man, I also hope that some company isn't doing something sneaky like that. It would be akin to a band calling themselves 'Free Beer' so that their flyers could read, "Come out to ___ this Friday night for Free Beer! (Actually, I think there was such a band on the local scene when I was going to U.T.)

i always thought the name 'free beer, no cover' would be marketing genius.

tonight only! free beer, no cover.
  2. i do some racing on sailboats from time to time. two of the regattas that i have been to (usually in Texas) used shotgun blanks for the starter horns and first place finishing.

i also think there are scale model cannons that use shotgun blanks.
  3. The WalMart at Nolensville Rd and Old Hickory Boulevard had an all-you-can-eat buffet of Federal 9mm the other evening when I was in there. They probably had 300 boxes on the shelves. And almost that many boxes of .45acp.

that's the nearest walmart to me. i was in there early last week and they had about 100 of the federal 9mm. i wonder if the same boxes have been on the shelf for two weeks now?
  4. I use an old belt that I no longer wear. Stropping makes a HUGE difference. I do it on all my knives, from my EDC to my Chinese vegetable cleaver.

good idea on the belt! i was up last night reading this thread and looking for a good piece of leather. my old belts never crossed my mind.
  5. I don't eat mcdonalds much, but do on occasion.

while each location is independently owned, the corporation does take (in my experience) a very "hands-on" approach with the franchisees.

I had a customer experience with the location in east nashville that really ticked me off. i sent an email explaining the situation, and received three phone calls over the next few weeks. one from the regional corporate trainer, one from the area manager, and one from the franchisee. each one was genuinely interested and wanted to work to improve the customer service there.

i gained a lot of respect for mcdonalds corporate with that experience.
  6. i have been stopped twice in nashville (east precinct) since i started carrying. in both instances i offered my DL and HCP. both officers could not have been any nicer.

the first stop the officer was very nice, but looked at my HCP like i had just handed him my library card. kind of a "What does this have to do with anything" look.

the second stop was a relatively young officer. when he was handed the HCP he asked if i was armed at the time and where it was located. he said "I'll make you a deal. You don't go for yours, and I won't go for mine."
