  1. Just a personal preference but I like the sheaths that come up a little higher on the knife.  Right now you have the top of the sheath terminating right at the guard.  Coming up about 1/4 of the handle would really improve the look IMHO.  Make it look more beefy.  Again just a personal preference.  Nice work!

EDIT:  I do like the firesteel loop being part of the pouch!  Makes it more compact.

  2. Bob was under water for a few seconds, long enough to be bit without anyone seeing.  How else to explain his turn from sunny optimist to crying alone?  My theory on the bites is that a toxin (toxic bacteria) is transmitted through the bites, and it kills you, but there is something else (walker germ) that re-animates the corpse.  So far, being bitten is really no different than dying from any other disease--you die, then you rise.

So if Bob is bitten, and the cannibals keep him alive, then the toxin could spread through his body and contaminate his meat.  "Bob taint" instead of "Boar taint."  So eating human flesh infected with the walker germ doesn't affect the cannibals, but eating human flesh contaminated with a toxin (whether walker saliva toxin or antifreeze or whatever) will spell trouble for the cannibals.  I predict that the cannibals have been studiously avoiding eating flesh bitten by walkers, and when (or if) they find out Bob has been bitten, they will think (and may be right) that it is a death sentence.  Perhaps there will be a scene when they go to cut his other leg off and they find a bite mark, and Bob gets to rub it in their faces before dying.

Reminds me about a joke in which Indians give a last meal to an Englishman, a Frenchman, and an American before killing them and skinning them to make canoes out of their flesh.  The Englishman asks for tea and says, "God save the King," before being executed and skinned in front of the other two.  The Frenchman asks for wine and says, "Viva la France," before the same thing happens.  The American only asks for a fork.  Then, while stabbing himself repeatedly, he yells, "So much for your effing canoe!"

I chuckled nicely at the last part.  Thanks.

  3. Well one is from Canada and another from the good ole USA...
    Top to bottom:
Martini Cadet in 357, Savage no4 sporter, no4 mk2 with a sterling armaments 308 kit (my L42 fake), BSA no5, and my 43 Longbranch. Just got the Longbranch and dead centered the bull at 100 yds on the second shot. Excellent shooter. Hoping to trade the little Martini at the next gun show for a nice no1 mk3 to round out the collection. None are excellent examples but they are all special to me.

  4. Well she is now scary sharp. Did some light work with it this morning before the kiddos stirred for presents. The blade is massive. Thick with a beefy grind. For this reason it didnt excell at light carving (i was thinning some plum scales for my Victorinox). I guess it really wasnt made for that. I put it down and used my Helle Odel. I think for general carry a smaller blade is better. I would much rather carry the Odel I think for most situations. I did make a fire using the supplied firesteel. You really need to Google the shango notch to use it correctly. I was doing it all wrong (not the only one either from reading other posts about it). All in all I am pleased with my purchase. We will see how it fairs for general camp use when I go on a hog hunt next month.
  5. Went to a local pawn shop here in Knoxville and picked up a Benjamin NP Titan for $65 in .22!  This is one hard hitting rifle!!!  Definitely going to be the Bugging In Meat catcher!!!

Same rifle i have.  Very nice.  The nitro spring makes a real difference.  I was on the way of working up the same concept when these started coming out.  We use nitro springs all the time at work.  Retro fitting an old springer looked doable but for $100-$200 for one already made was a no brainer.

  6. No worries. Thanks for the comments. I am very pleased with how they turned out. Heat treated the hawk after work. 60rc and no warp. It is in the draw right now. Shooting for 55rc on it. Trying to decide if I want to cerakote them. I love the satin look but o1 is a rust hog so a coating is almost a must. The hawk is going to be flat black with tan G10. Not sure on the gladius.
  7. I'm not a seller to be sure, these were personal use builds for the zombie kit. There's quite a bit of work done on these.  We had the blanks cut from a large sheet at an outsource shop.  Several of us went in on the build.  A single hawk would probably be very expensive...

  8. ...I worked up.  Had the blank cut from a sheet of O1.  I did the major stock removal prior to heat treat on the mill.  Hand worked the tip.  I then progressed from files to stones to emory.  The heat treat went well. O1 of course gets VERY hard in a oil quench from 1550°.  65rc right after HT.  I did a 2-3 hour draw at @600° that brought it down to 55rc.  Works for me!  The handle is a temp made from wrapping a couple of slabs of motorcycle tire.  I am ordering the G10 this weekend.  This is of course a blatant copy of the Busse Gladius.  I have around $50 in that and the hawk I had cut out.  I just couldnt justify $1000+ for the Busse and being a designer in a pretty big shop I have the recources and leeway to do my own for much less $.  I won't put a price tag on my labor (I know why they cost $1000 now...).  Anyhoo, submitted for your approval:

Here is the hawk which is another blatant copy of the Hardcore Hardware hawk.  It is ready for heat treat.  It is going to wear G10 also:

  9. I know a guy who could give you a good deal on an unused Swamp Rat Rucki right now...

Now thats a  good looking bit of kit.  I should have known better than to post up here.  Just gives me more to drool/ponder over.

  10. I am shopping for a new toy. I have wanted one of Cold Steels 1917 cutlasses for a while. I am close to pulling the trigger and wandered into several videos that Cold Steel did on their various products. Now I am torn between their Grosse Messer, 1917 Cutlass, and any one of their sabers. Anyone have a favorite. Just looking for some other points of view. Thanks guys!
  11. Wait till you see WWZ...thats if they follow the book at all.

So just a thought. In a world where zombies are common and the known constant is that they are all brainless and attracted to noise/light. Why not take advantage of this and setup sometype of zombie mill.

So you have a safe house and here comes the herd... flip on a switch which activates a siren and a flashing light, maybe some meat bait and lure them into a pit/fire/spinning blades/etc. You don't really need to run out in the yard and lop off heads. Just use misdirection!
