  1. thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming.

I have shot handguns before, just haven't owned one. that said I don't think it will be a .22. Right now I am leaning towards the 9mm just because it will be reasonably cheap to practice with. I will have to look into the S&W. I was hoping to get that ruger but I noticed it is sold already.

That S&W 40 might also be an option ;). I'll have to think about it.

  2. I have several rifles already, but I am looking to get my first handgun. Unfortunately, I don't have a ton to spend right now, it probably has to be less than $300. I am open to any caliber, but was sort of leaning to something that is cheaper to shoot right now. I plan on putting a lot of rounds through it as I learn. Also, this may turn into a carry weapon so keep that in mind.

    Suggestions?

  3. Top 40 Reasons to Support Gun Control

careful, the sarcasm is a bit thick

here are a few of my favorites :-)

    5. We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid.

    6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals.

    8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

    14. These phrases,†right of the people peaceably to assemble,†“right of the people to be secure in their homes,†“enumeration’s herein of certain rights shall not be construed to disparage others retained by the people,†and “The powers not delegated herein are reserved to the states respectively, and to the people,†all refer to individuals, but “the right of the people to keep and bear arms†refers to the state.

    15. We don’t need guns against an oppressive government, because the Constitution has internal safeguards, but we should ban and seize all guns, thereby violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th amendments to that Constitution.

  4. We just did a series on guns over at Geek Politics that you may be interested in. The last post was on the assault weapons ban and how the last one was a joke and there is a new one in the wings. All you have to do is look at whitehouse.gov to see that there is going to be an attack on the 2nd amendment over the next 4 years. If you are wanting to get one, now is the time. (As if any of this is new information, just thought I'd share the article and start some discussion / ranting :))

  5. guys, you can't really complain about the prices and say these shows or whatever suck. well, i guess you can complain, but you shouldn't be surprised. it's called supply and demand. demand has gone through the roof (we all know why). i have been to several gun shops and shows since the election and they have been absolutely packed. demand goes up, supply goes down, price goes up. that is how it works.

  6. I have a poll going on my website that you all might like to participate in. I wrote an article last week that received quite a bit of negative feedback - 3 Reasons Why You Should be Proud to be an American. It was basically just saying that I am thankful to be an American. I thought it was benign but it received lots of negative feedback on my site and some social bookmarking sites. So I followed that post up today with - Why I'm Patriotic and You Don't Have to Be along with the poll asking simply, Are you patriotic? I suspect that most people on here have a response that is much more similar to mine than the rest of the internet, (or at least I hope), but I would like to find out. Is my point of view way off base here, or are there some patriotic Americans left.

  7. i didn't say major republican senator, i said major republican, ie colin powell among others. the fact that he was elected as an independent doesn't really matter very much. he has been and is a democrat, idealogically speaking and according to his voting record. the democrats were happy to have him when he gave them a 1 person majority, but they are pushing him aside now that they have a larger majority. this is washington as usual and partisan politics at its worst.

  8. Let's face it: just how many of you would have been as equally supportive if a major Republican senator supported Obama???????????????????

there were many major republicans that supported obama. that isn't the point. we have all this rhetoric about changing washington, uniting the country, and then we have to deal with this political BS. he is a democrat because that is what his views are and how he votes most of the time. there is no reason to strip him of his current leadership roles b/c he supported mccain over obama. all this hopety hope change change hope is bs if this the type of thing that happens. this is complete political garbage and nothing else. where is all the bi-partisan reaching across the aisle. if it was still 50-49 in the senate they would be sucking up to lieberman.

  9. ok, so this really pisses me off. the idea that Joe Lieberman should be punished for supporting John McCain is incredibly ridiculous. It makes me think more of a communist country or some dictatorship than it does America. Punishing a leader because he didn't support the candidate from a particular party? What the heck happened to uniting the country and reaching across the aisle. I wrote a longer article about this on my blog if you want to check it out - Punishing Lieberman? Anyway, just thought I'd share this and see what everyone else thinks about this political garbage.

  10. "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have"

This is the real problem with socialism. if you used the gov't to get back on your feet that is great. that is how the system is supposed to work. the problem is, way too many people use the system to stay down. people work the system and live on welfare with no intentions of getting off and contributing to society. I know people who intentionally have more children they don't want because the gov't will give them more money. if we all got to keep the 30ish% that the gov't takes, we could very easily take care of the people like you that want to get back on their feet through private charities. we would not allow people to just use the system. they would have to get off their lazy rear ends and get a job, or suffer the consequences.

  11. Everyone knows, if you don't feel like getting a job so you can obtain some sort of healthcare, the government will give it to you for free. These government programs give no incentive to actually work for anything. The government makes being a complete loser all too easy. It's no wonder so many people take advantage of the system.

This is exactly why making it even easier is very silly.

  12. this is why obama's health care won't work in america. too many lazy bastards who want stuff for free and don't want to work for it.

    http://blogs.wsj.com/health/2008/10/17/axe-falls-on-program-to-insure-all-children-in-hawaii/

hawaii tried to insure all children. people who already had health care and could afford it dropped their health care to take the "free" health care. the system went bankrupt in 7 months.

this is why socialism fails. when "spread the wealth" as obama wants to do, you lessen the incentive to work hard and get ahead. this creates a society that is even lazier than the one we have now. people won't work if they can do just as well by not working. this is why free-market capitalism has been proven to be the best system. people have to work hard to get ahead and it makes all of society better because of it.
