  1. XD Subcompact 9mm in a Don Humes JIT slide.  OWB covered by a loose shirt.  I'm not that strict about covering it up.  If the wind blows and exposes it, so be it.  Same when I reach for something on a top shelf and my gun is exposed.  I'm not worried about it.  I don't open carry because I don't want to deal with the questions.  I just want to go about my business.

  2. I can see your setting up a revolver vs semi automatic discussion, but IMHO its what's an acceptable round count. I decided 10+1 is my lower limit. Low round count is fine for one attacker, maybe two, but in the heat of the moment every shot needs to count. I also decided I didn't want to be out gunned by multiple assailants. Two assailants x 15 rounds each vs a revolver is not good odds. I figure if the shooting starts its a gun fight. A .357 is very nice, perhaps special, but a .40 can be configured to shoot .357sig in a couple minutes.

No, I didn't mean to set up such a discussion.  I did have a similar discussion a while back with my brother, who looked down on revolvers.  He said it's not enough rounds, why have 6 when you can have 10+1 rounds, it's easier to reload, etc.  I told him a good .357 packs just as good a punch...some people hunt with a .357.  Now, it's not something I'd want to go to battle with, but for personal protection, it's fine.

You raise a good point about being an acceptable round count, and that's probably what I meant to discuss...it was late and the caffeine was wearing off.  :D

  3. Those of you that own revolvers: do you ever feel under gunned when compared to the higher capacity semi autos?  I know semi-autos are all the rage, especially since some of them carry 16+ rounds. I know one guy who has a 30 round magazine for his Glock.  More rounds are better!   So he says.   LOL  Why would anyone own a revolver that only shoots 5 or 6 rounds when you can have twice as many?

I have one revolver, and it won't be the last one I own.  I also have a semi auto.   I like revolvers, I think they're fun to shoot. My take on this is I'm not looking to use a revolver to get in a gunfight.  I'm not using a revolver to go to war, I'm using a revolver for personal protection.  My revolver (Ruger SP101) can shoot either .38 or .357 rounds.  Can your semi auto do that?

    What are your thoughts?

  4. I will admit I traded my Beretta 92 for a Ruger GP100, and my Beretta Storm subcompact for a Ruger SP101.  I have never looked back.  You simply cannot beat a revolver for durability and reliability.  My GP100 will handle the hottest .357 magnum load I can muster with no problems.  My SP101 is small, but has enough front weight that it is easy to shoot with magnum loads.  The two of them will be around long after I am gone, and they caliber match my new Rossi 92 lever action.

I honestly do not own a semi auto handgun anymore, and don't regret it.

Awesome.  I also have the Ruger SP101.  And I want a Ruger GP100 as well.  I like my revolvers.

  5. I have an XD9SC that I love.

Same here.  It conceals well, it shoots good.

The only possible quirk is that it might be a bit small to wrap your pinky finger around.  Even I have smaller hands, and had that problem.  Getting a Pearce extension (about $10-11 at your local gunstore) took care of that.  It certainly made a difference in the feel of the gun and helped my shooting.

  6. It's hard to beat a S&W 686 (or even a 586) or a Ruger GP100, both are fine choices. Handle them both and see which one "fits" better. You'll know, your gut instinct will tell you.

Ditto what Bassoneer said about shooting .38 rounds, it's just fun. I've always thought shooting revolvers were fun, especially shooting .38 rounds.

  7. I saw one of these at a pawn shop in Gallatin. Almost bought it but came home and did some research.

Looks like S&W's new Bodyguard was a big improvement.

Good thing you didn't get it. LOL But who knows, it might be a good fit for someone.

It may have been because I was still new to handguns, but I found the recoil pretty snappy for a 380. Then again, it was a lighter and smaller gun; I think it was listed as 14 oz. My brother shot it and said that it kicked pretty good for a 380...more than our Dad's Glock 17. It just wasn't a gun I enjoyed shooting...and why keep a gun you don't like shooting?

    S&W Sigma 380.

I bought it in the mid 90s when it came out. I was a total newbie to handguns. I got it thinking it would be easier to reload than a revolver, and that it would be a good home defense gun.

Like I said, I was a total newbie. :shake:

I got it, and did not like shooting it. I kept it, thinking I probably just needed to practice with it. I tried, and I just did not like it. No real sights, had to have a special disassembly tool, and I found the magazine hard to eject. I finally pawned it.
