Quick question,
I have not shot at this range since 2011 and I'd like to bring a few of my fellow shooters/co-workers with me so they can try USPSA out and see if they like it.
Q. Can they shoot the first time without being a member of the NTPS or USPSA? I am a member of USPSA but not the NTPS currently (I plan on joining).

Well, they were two different manufacturers. Both companies make pretty good guns and stuff happens. It's is not hard to for tolerances to stack in one direction or another. I know the one gun had the top end totally replaced by the factory but I don't know what happened to the other. 1 minute and two gauge pins and they could catch that at the factory. Most factories don't check that spec though.

The only problem I have seen with the external extractors is that you can't adjust the hook to breech face distance. If it is off, you are pretty much sunk. I've had two in my shop that had this issue and both had been back to the factory multiple times. That problem is totally fixable with the traditional internal extractor or the aftec.
The aftec IMO, is the best of both worlds. I use them in every gun I own, and unless instructed to do otherwise, they are standard in every gun I build. They use springs to tension and pivots on the firing pin stop while keeping the traditional look. LOVE THEM!!!

I use an over and under because I like having two chokes, but I'd probably go with a semi-auto otherwise.

This is one of the best tutorials I am aware. The only thing he didn't cover (if memory serves) is to keep both elbows slightly bent and grip more with your support hand than the strong. I like 70/30. Basically you hold the gun with your support hand and operate the trigger with the strong hand.

Think of it in terms of you own a bus company. Just because everyone pays taxes for road work doesn't give them the 'right' to ride your bus without paying you. Or like using a computer iwth a bootleg copy of Windows. You might own the PC but you don't own the OS. IDPA leases you the right to shoot under their rules for a year for $40. It's 2 boxes of ammo now so it's not like your going to have to pick pay for a membership or feed your kids this month.
I guess I just don't get it.
If it were a bus company, it is only supplying the operations manual. The club buys the bus, tires ,garage, gas, oil, labor, tools, advertisement etc....etc...etc.... Do they supply you with stage design other than the classifier? It's an affiliation plain and simple. The CLUB is the sports life blood, and the club will benefit greatly by not limiting participation based on membership.
Heck, I don't have a dog in the hunt. I wish y'all well and good shooting. I want all shooting sports to do well and I was just curious as to why you would limit participation.

If you are shooting in an IDPA match and you are not an IDPA member, why should you be allowed the same recognition as dues paying IDPA members?
Why wouldn't you? Who does it harm? It only helps the club and grows the sport as I see it....
edit to add:
I probably don't understand how IDPA clubs work, so I'm just asking and not trying to be confrontational.

One of the ideas that I submitted early on during this rewrite was to place anyone not a member of IDPA (even at local matches) into an "out-of-competition" category. When scores were then posted after a match, only members with an IDPA number would be listed.
If an non-IDPA shooter wanted to see how they finished among those shooting the match...., they would need to join IDPA.
Otherwise they could come and enjoy shooting the matches, we would be happy to see them at the range - - - but they would not be part of the competition.
Why in the world would you want to do that?????

As I've said a million times I just love to shoot. I was really hoping that the few rules that prevent me from shooting IDPA would go away with the new book, oh well......
Just glad that MCTS has other matches (run and gun/steel etc..) as I really have enjoyed meeting new folks and I love that I have another place to shoot.

It's probably just blow by. Commonly happens when shooting lighter loads. It happens because the case pressure is so light that the case does not expand to the size of the chamber. Not really a problem. It can be caused by a chamber out of spec (too big), but that is WAY less likely.

I didn't realize Tim was the OP in this thread. Saw the mini browning and lost all interest in anything else. I does make me want one more now that I realize. Also I'm sure the trigger job came out great. How was it stock?
The stock trigger was not good. I didn't measure it, but I'm guessing around 7 lbs and a nasty creep.
What I liked about it:
1. It was very accurate, and I was able to shoot a nice tight group at 15 yards.
2. It ran really well. I could not find ammo, so I had to scrounge together stuff from every nook and cranny and I accumulated about 100 rounds. So it had to eat a bunch of different stuff and did so well.
3. My son loves it and anything to get my boys shooting more I LOVE.
What I would change:
1. For grown up hands that use a high grip on top of the thumb safety, you will get bit. I got a nasty pinch before I was aware. So, I would love a beaver tail option.
2. Sights are usable but barely for these old eyes.
3. I don't like that the trigger will not function when the magazine is out. Just a pet peeve of mine really, and It could easily be fixed with little trouble.
All in all I'm very happy with it. More than anything I loved the smile on my sons face as he was shooting it. I thought to myself, yep I know that smile......I still get it too.

Just picked this up for my son. He was very excited and I have to say I love this little thing. I got it home did a nice 3lb trigger job on it and this afternoon we took it to the range. It shot great and he had a blast!!

By the way, did anybody find a front sight up there after the match? I think mine is missing, but I can't remember where & when I last saw it...
It must have been contagious. Mine seemed to be missing every time I went to shoot steel or a swinger, and then appear back from time to time. weird.... :-)
