Internal taper should not have required tapered chambers?

No it shouldn't. But the chamber has changed over the years. As has the brass. Just like now it's common to see .452 diameter bullets in the cartridge.

Actually the case walls do thicken near the head of the case.  Here are two .45 Colt cases, one old balloon head case, the other a modern case:

As noted, the thickness where I cut doesn't affect bullet seating.

When were the tapered cases used?  Never saw a .45 Colt round tapered.  Here are some vintage .45 rounds, including the ".45 Short Colt", though not so called:

    Tapered internally, balloon head cases.

Rhineland arms used to make a 45 ACP conversion for Mausers. It was cheap too, something like $200 for everything including the barrel.

Here you go, $160 and that includes the magazine well to accept 1911 magazines.

I'm in the slow process of integral supressor build with one of these kits on a Spanish Mauser. Will be epic upon completion.

stamps here, donor rifle & conversion kit. Just gotta build the supressor.

  4. Haven't seen deals like this in a bit. Get it while you can. Good shooting ammo if you don't need brass. Made to run in battle rifles like Fals and hk91's. Comes out to about $0.40 a round shipped. 540rd cases:

also have 900rd cases at same price

  5. If building: Mega makes the best forged lowers, also they have matching engraved, forged uppers that add a touch of continuity to a build.

Budget and personal preference  decides the rest.

  6. I have ssa and ssae, for precision or competition ssae wins. Prefer the ssa on a serious use gun.

I also have a larue mbt, it IS a better trigger than the others. Especially if you catch the $100 sale.

in long run, I prefer 1 stage triggers, CMC gets my vote, 3.5lb flat.

Another option is a slightly better trigger, ALG ACT with JP yellow springs is all you'd ever need in a trigger

  7. In the governor, I don't see too much of a difference. The hassle would be moon clips for the auto. I'd save my money and order a box of 45acp +p woods loads from buffalo bore with a flat nosed cast bullet. Good bear medicine, not tear up gun.

I have a 16" from David also. Wood furniture, no brake, started life as a .270win.

I still want 2 more from him, just because, 45colt and 10mm.

I would go with the Draco over the PAP because it takes standard AK muzzle devices and furniture. I also believe that the Dracos are higher quality than the PAPs. I see you are in Gibson County and if you want to shoot my Draco next week I would be happy to let you do that since I'm in McKenzie. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer! Either would get re-threaded concentric and non metric for supressor use.

I have a shockwave on mine with a stormwerkz hinge on it. Granted you will have to tap the receiver but it is a rock solid setup. Even though the shockwave wasn't mentioned in the letter one, I am of the opinion that the shockwave is in the same league as a sig brace. If you do get the shockwave make sure you get the KAK tube for it.

Shockwave also OK for shouldering, per their website:

im pretty much considering the exact same build, maybe on zastava pap 92 instead of Draco.

  11. Kahr makes the CM and PM in 40 in the same size as 9mm. Smaller than the shield/43, etc...

best pocket gun I've had was a kel tec p32, weighs like 6-8oz loaded. I don't pocket carry so it hit the bricks.

  12. Not trying to be a jerk. But I'd start reloading. The factory loaded ammo usually isn't up to snuff power wise and overpriced. Look around at the major online retailers and sign up for in stock alerts. Gunbroker also usually has 357max stuff for sell.

It really is one of my favorite cartridges, but I reload for it.

What are your thoughts on the Griffin rev 9? It seems to be very similar to the octane just has the option to go with a K setup.

I really don't see the appeal of "modular" cans. They will get carbon locked if not cleaned regularly. Personally, I'd most likely keep them in full configuration.

Griffin makes great stuff, I don't think you could go wrong.

excellent stuff, owner has some odd ways of dealing with people who he considers are complaining, he doesn't like stupid, whiny and impatient customers. You pay, get confirmation and wait. He often publicly chastised customers(not by name though) who annoyed him.

  15. This is the exact reason I got rid of my Cm9 after 3yrs of non-stop carry, it was just too different to maintain consistency without lots of practice. Personally, I don't like the 938, it is 1911-ish but I can't use the safety effectively as it is too far back in the hand, not anywhere near as natural as a standard frame 1911.

I eventually "standardized" on glock and 1911's. My carry gun for the foreseeable future is the g43.

  16. I hope everybody does understand that this is a Wilson PRODUCTION gun and it also isn't a 1911. No grip safety. No grip screw or bushings. It is 1911-ish. Also is not a 45 sized gun.
