To do a decent job, you need to have a milling machine of some sort. I use a small bench top mill with a mod of a dial indicator on the depth quill. I suppose some one who is very carful might be able to hollow out the cavity with a drill press & drills with maybe a dremil to clean things up but in my book that's a night mare since grinding aluminum packs up a grind stone or diamond infused cutter pretty quick. After a diligent search for a jig a couple years ago, I bought this one http://www.kearms.com/ke15-jig Its a nice jig with hardened pin bushings. Iv only done one 80 so far but it worked well. I always thought a 45ACP in a AR set up is nice since I have a number of grease gun mags but just as many other irons in the fire! Good luck with your decision.
thanks for the replies guys. and x thanks for the link . seems like they have several 80% jigs on the market now i just need to go and bite the bullet . I agree a 45 ar would be awesome. but you guys are right by the time you buy the jig , tools and end mill i could have just bought a nice complete lower from someone.

Ive searched every possible way on here and nothing. Has any one on here ever used an 80% jig to finish an ar lower? Im really interested in buying the jig to do 5.56 but really really have an itch to build a AR in 9mm.
