  1. Maybe this woman and the wanna be rapper in the other thread can help each other out... so none of us have to read about them any more...

And props to the aunt for tossing the gun out the window... I'm sure that firearm will never be misused...

  2. Not to start a flaming war here... cripe.. might as well start a "which oil / caliber / candidate / religion" is better thread... but nearly all gas comes from the same refineries and pipelines...  That's why most of the delivery trucks are independent... and that's why toy see nearly all branded trucks at all the refineries...  Gas would be insanely expensive if everyone truly had their own wells/refineries/tankers/trucks...  The only real difference is the branding (form over function) and the additives they put in (not that is real and makes a difference)...   The reason I share that?  I am not sure non-ethanol gas has the same additives you like with your current favorite stations...

Most newer engines with an ECU have KR(knock retard) built in. If you get knock, whether it's due to fuel to something else, it pulls timing until there is no knock. It would be low on power but otherwise ok. Don't know how much power would be lost, might be barely noticeable or not at all. A CBR isn't exactly low on power to start with though.

Yup... 100%.. you lost a bit of power... as a guy who had a 1100XX and a 954RR, Honda makes a great sportbike... although their motorcycle division has been a bit soul-less this past decade... but that's another subject..   Just like getting higher octane than your manufacturer recommends "isn't taking extra good care" of your vehicle nor adding power...

Octane aside, it's the ethanol (in any octane) that's making a long term adverse impact on all of our vehicles...  If you want to keep anything long term, consider feeding non ethanol gas..

I don't remember the octane level,  but the CITGO at the corner of S. Mt Juliet Rd and Central Pike carries non ethanol gas. My BMW motorcycle requires 90 to 93.

Your bike, especially the engine and pistons and rings, will love non ethanol gas...  One of my rides is a Duc and the Pure Gas site helped me find 93 non ethanol...  My bike loves it and I no longer have to put Ring Saver (or other) additive in there...

Here's a long shot... do you know a pilot?  Get some AvGas!  100 octane, ethanol free, but it's not cheap. (about $4.75/gal) :P

I remember years ago when I lived in Illinois, my local Amoco station sold racing fuel (102 octane, lead) it was about 3x the price of reg unleaded but it made a world of difference in my old 65 Mercury!

Except the gas we pilots use, usually 110LL, has lead in it.... The LL stands for Low Lead... Your car will thank you....well, except for the CatConv....

Pure Gas (the app and site) are a good place to bookmark and download...

I use that website, along with the Android (or Apple) apps all the time. The apps are basic, but functional...

The only Gotcha is that everything is input by users... so some information is just wrong... Some stations get away from Ethanol Free, or change owners... Some folks just put in bad info...  But as the owner of a European performance motorcycle that doesn't care for Ethanol,  I rely on the app a lot. Plus Ethanol free is just better for our cars and usually (but not always) add an extra MPG or two.

I think you will find it depends on the department. Many years ago when I was a cop it was wait on backup, secure the scene, wait on a team (SWAT, etc.) to enter. I think many departments now simply have the first Officers on the scene enter and engage the shooter.

I'm not a LEO, never was a LEO, never played one on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.... but I'm pretty sure that mentality changed with Virginia Tech....  First to arrive, get a small fire team (I'm sure civvies have a better term for it) and engage the shooter ASAP to disrupt their free access to the victims... That's why I think many of us were wondering (at first) why the LEOs waited so long in Orlando....

As a civilians, aren't we tasked with protecting ourselves and our loved ones....and thus probably not engage the shooter unless it's necessary to engage while we still have an offensive capacity?

i don't know.... That's why I think these dialogues and training are beneficial.... something always to be learned through constructive dialogue

  8. That's funny.... I think I'll like it around here....

I'll admit I may agree with the too hot mentality (at first) not because of the controllability, but because it did over penetrate.  And when shooting BGs, I think we all want our round to go in, get wet, get really big, and then stay in the goop.... 10's weren't doing that at first.  But look at all the technological advances, in all calibers, since then...

  9. There was a time when I wondered about the cult like following of the HK crowd... Why do they buy these overpriced firearms.... Then I bought one, then another, then another.... They are great shooters and my 3 were all inherently reliable enough to carry every day.... They feel right....

As to why we "prefer" one platform but carry another.....can it be as simple as reliability? We love a particular firearm, but it's not the most reliable one we have.... I'm a Glock "hater"... they feel funny in my hand and I don't shoot them well.....but I carried one for years because I trusted its reliability and my ability to deliver rounds on target if the need arised. Or maybe because some guns are too nice to carry.... I've never understood that one...

  10. Interesting dialogue....

technicslly more people die from 22s than any other caliber.....but I'd never carry one..... And I'd rather not get hit with anything (thank you).... but that said I think I'd rather carry a J frame Smithy with +Ps than a 380.... I'd never feel under gunned with a 9 (and I carry a 45 daily) but the 9 has always been my minimum.... There have been so many ballistics advances that there's a decent round in every caliber.... but I'm not sure there's the R&D invested in the 380 and there isn't enough energy in target for me to feel comfortable.... In a high stress situation, few of us are going to be accurate.....you can afford to be less accurate when you're putting more energy from your bullet on target...  Would I carry a 380 if that's all I could conceal? Absolutely....but I'd probably try to get away with that 9...

That said, I'd rather confront a poorly trained bad guy with a 9 that a strong shooter with a 380.... James Bond did OK with the the 380!

  11. Thanks guys....

Jeb, we "just might" be neighbors....

and thanks to Raoul, I finally looked up what "State of Franklin" meant. Interesting history... although I kind of like being in TN and glad TN "got us" rather than NC... I like Western and Eastern NC...it's the center that I didn't care for....

  12. This vid is making the rounds everywhere... Well, everywhere folks will watch it.

All we can do is try to educate and enlighten..... Others may have closed minds, but we still need to make the effort...

  13. Interesting....,

that I've put 100 rounds through.....

Short barreled 1911..... I'm a 1911 guy.. love them. Almost never say no to a good deal on one.... but as someone above said, when you try to turn the 1911 in to something it wasn't meant to be, then you're going to have problems. I'd never trust anything smaller than a Commander sized 1911. The 3.5" and bellow just don't cycle reliably...regardless of how much more has been done....on average....

Mr. Browning never meant for his beloved 1911 to be a compact or a super tight firearm.... Doing so is like giving Babe Ruth a tennis racket....

  14. Hello everyone... I'm a newbie to East Tn and the site here so I thought I'd check in.

Of course I did what many of us do when joining a forum... jumped right over to the For Sale section and eyeballed a 308 (my addiction)... so I thought I'd better say hello and then step away from the keyboard..

I look forward to participating around here and hopefully will see a few of you at the range...
