  1. Great job! Started keeping them myself last year. Gutter and small rain barrel helps with watering . I piped in some nipple waterers so they can't get it dirty. Also, hanging feeders are great and start thinking about keeping the water unfrozen. Gave me a fit on those 9 degree days last winter. I'm also currently looking into buying coyote urine to keep mice at bay.

  2. That was fast!

I've googled this to death already looking for old ones. I don't think this was a production piece so they may be one of a kind. There is a place in town that collects this kinda stuff I may check out, but the odds of finding 4 alike......

I think casting is probably going to be my most practical solution. It would be a handy thing to know in the future too! Thanks for the link, Omega. Lot of good info here. I knew I could count on you guys.

  3. I wanted to see what the minds here could come up with. Any help is appreciated.

I would really like to duplicate these keyhole covers. I have 4 and need 4 more. They are about 1-1/4 square and .03" thick. Aside from the outside shape, the interior design is embossed or engraved.

I had some ideas, but I tend to over complicate things. :-)

  4. Thanks guys. I will be practicing. Had this been a survival situation, I would have been out of luck. I burned way too much energy to make it practical. I was watching a video and this guy made the point that if you're lost/hungry, tasks like this become much harder to pull off (unless you're well practiced?).

whitewolf, I think what you're describing is charcloth?

I've yet to try the cotton ball trick. Zippo sells a fire starter that utilizes a similar cotton wick thing. I think I have some somewhere...

  5. Went out this weekend intent on building this fire from foraged materials and fire steel. Just to see if I could. It was harder than I would have thought.

Proper tinder seems to be the key. Dried grass burns well, too well. Burns up too quick imo. I lucked into some pine sap / fatwood and finally got her going!  Now, I usually carry a lighter or two in my bag, so the fire steel was more just to see if I could, but it was fun and interesting and I had a good time.

  6. I gathered the same thing from what I had read about them, expecting that the bushlore may need a little "polishing" upon arrival, but I found the fit and finish to be more than acceptable.  I also read that Condor had recently redesigned the bushlore a bit, supposedly based on customer feedback. So, they may have raised their quality standards a bit. There isn't anything particularly flashy about it, but it should get the job done.  Like the Glock of the knife world,
