  3. My name is Chris, if you have shot prone at Tullahoma from 2001-2011 or in the last couple years we've probably met. I live in LaVergne and enjoy shooting 600+ yards with anything that will stay supersonic. Glad to be back.

  5. Shooters, Warren County Rifle Club, with an assist from Highland Rim Club, held the 8th Annual Tennessee Long Range F Class Championship this past weekend at the Known Distance Range on Arnold Air Force Base, Tullahoma TN. We had 42 shooter attending day one and 38 shooters day two. Of the shooters, we had 2 visit from Georgia, 6 from Kentucky, 2 from Missouri, 3 from Alabama and 1 from Florida. We also had four juniors out for the prize. Day one was warm and breezy, with quite a bit of fishtailing winds and a high sun all day. Day two started with light rain, switched to a warm sun, then settled on overcast and a light fishtailing breeze. For the first time in several years, no matches had to be cancelled due to rain and no shooters had a pool of water on their backs while firing. Though Frank Beckmann was unable to attend, I am sure he can appreciate this sentiment. We have only one flag, at the pit wall, and it was worthless day one but seemed to a fair indicator day two. I would like to congratulate Jim Sokolowski for his repeat victory as State Champion. Jim not only captured high state shooter, but was also the match winner with the highest aggregate score of 964-20X. The match was close, with only a handful of points separating the top half dozen shooter at the end of day one, but Jim came back day two and managed to maintain the lead, with Jim Murphy taking a decent chunk off the lead after match four. Jim took top Open shooter, with an aggregate of 961-26. High F TR was also a tossup going into day two. Dale Carpenter lead day one by one point, but Dan Biggs was on a mission for a new binder of national record, and managed to break the grand senior 1000y F TR 20 shot slow fire record three times this weekend, with his highest match of 190-04X on five. That match was good enough to pull it out and Dan’s 933-13X bested Dale’s 930-9X. The high State F TR shooter was Campbell Boyd with a 913-12X. The junior competition was no less hard fought. Ammo trouble kept Charles Crawley from completing day one, but the other three juniors went at it. Match four John Ralston put up a very impressive 188-4X which sealed the deal. John’s aggregate was 897-7X, 7th overall in F TR. Both Travis Dickson and Nate Espy were the pictures of consistency. They both put up some impressive scores with Travis’s finishing with 874-9X and Nate ending the weekend with an 864-10X. I think it’s fair to note that both Nate and Travis outshot their parents, and John just missed tying his father by one point. If this is the kind of competition we can expect in, I’m glad I shoot from a sling J We had several other special awards with Laura Perry again taking High Woman. Laura was in the hunt for the F TR win and her 918-13X was the third spot in class. James Murphy took top senior honors with his aforementioned 961-26. Jason Pagan took top military/police with a 917-11X, which I believe he earned by burning out Jeff Bartlett’s barrel. It’s nice when you can take home wood while wearing down someone else’s barrel and ammo supply. Tim Kreier fought off hours of hand pain to take home the top prone shooter award home with an 887-17X. Way to stick it out Grumpy! I would like to thank all the folks from TNSSA and Highland Rim club, who helped make this match possible, as well as John and John from WCRC who keep the program insured and manned. I would also like to thank our lovely road guards Dakota Hayes and Gabby Vespa for trying to “herd cats” this weekend, and both the TN Army National Guard and the Air Force for the outstanding facilities. A special note for all the shooters we know who sustained damage during the recent storms. You were there with us in spirit, and we’re all glad no one (to my knowledge) was seriously injured. We hope to see you back on the range soon. Our next match is tentatively scheduled for September 4th. It’s a long way out, so stay tuned. Thanks to all the shooters who drove in, both near and far, and helped make this another safe and successful match. I hope to see you all again soon. Until then, All X’s and 10’s. Chris Hayes
  6. Day 1 went well. If I could attach a PDF I would have results for today posted.
  7. I got word from the Guard today. No problems with the range or the match schedule. Weather should be good too. Looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow morning.
  8. I-24 to exit 117. Exit and turn toward the Air Force Base (west). Go 8.9 miles and there will be a brown sign on the right that says Arnold Rifle ranges and Tn NG Ranges. The road just past this is B-5. Turn right onto B-5 and the range is 1 mile up on the right.
  9. A sneak peak at the awards. I went a different direction for State Champion/Match Winner this year.
  10. No fee for people who come out to watch. We just ask that you sign in, and sign the waiver. (both Air Force requirements to be on the range)
  11. It's that time again. TN Long Range F Class Championship 2011 is here! I have the match program attached. 12. Unless he's driving to Oak Ridge, TN, Ft. Benning GA or Camp Atterbery in Arkansas(I think) it must be one of ours. There aren't many 1K ranges out there. I think LA has one as well.
  13. If Carl has good things to say then, YES, these are the matches. If he has bad things, then NO, these are better than the ones he's bad mouthing I all honesty I only know one Carl B and I haven't seen him on the range for a while. If his name ends in "enger" these are probably the matches. If that is the Carl, drag him back out. He shoots to well to miss these matches. Chris
  14. Shooters, Just a reminder that Warren County Rifle Club will be hosting a 2x1000 club match 3-20. Open to all Prone shooters, whatever class you choose, and maybe some that don't exist. Registration is 9AM central, Shooting starts at 10. Match fees for the day are $15. Club match, so awards are free matches. Matt Kubic is the match director for this match. It looks like we are going to have fantastic weather for this match, so come on out, enjoy the range, tell some lies and have fun this Sunday. Chris
  15. Shooters, Warren County Rifle Club held its 4th match of the year yesterday, and 10-10-10 was a great day to have a match. We had thirty one shooters come out to enjoy the day, with three juniors and seven new shooters coming out to try their skills. We ran a four shooter relay rotation. Match start was 0930 and ended at 1600. The weather was as good as I’ve seen on AEDC in eight years. We started the day at 0930, with an ambient temperature of about 65*f. Wind was extremely light with not more than a few MPH most of the day, but in typical AEDC fashion it was fishtailing with several mini-gusts and let offs. Mirage was up and reflecting changes perfectly. The target faces were fully lit by the start of the second match. The high temp on range during the match was around 85*f. We ran one flag (pit wall), which was all but worthless most of the day, and as usual it was a lair. Nine Prone shooters came out to enjoy the day. Requirement for the win was at least on one iron sight match, but it was open as to when irons were shot. Top score of the day, with one A/A one A/I was Chris Hayes with a 398-12x. Keith Perry was right there with a 395-21x, shooting irons throughout the day. Keith’s first match was a 199-14x in some pretty hazy, dark conditions. Matt Kubic was high Palma shooter, with a 389-9x and Laura Perry was high woman, putting up an iron sight score of 385-11. Greg Hamilton’s first effort at 1000 yards resulted in an impressive 362-8x with a 6BR. F class open had nine shooters. Steve Wells score of 377-7x took top spot in class. Steve has been right one the verge for a while now and it was good to see him take the win. Just two points down was Clinton Roberts, who put up a 375-4x. Chuck Nicholas was the top new shooter in Open class with a 361-1, just ahead of two other new shooters, Jeremy Hayes and Nick Nickolas, who put up 359-1 and 356-4 respectively. F TR was again our biggest class, with thirteen shooters. Campbell Boyd is no stranger to the top spot, and he took it again yesterday with a 363-3x. Steve Grammer was close behind with his 357-1 taking second spot and Dave Espy in third with a 355-2. We had four new F TR shooters. Travis Dickson took top honors for the new F TR shooters with a 349-1. Randy Newman’s 343-4 was a great effort as well as the 316-0 and 296-1 that John Price and Aaron Newman put into the books. I would like to thank all that came out and participated. You all made this another safe and successful event. I would like to thank Jack Dickson, who was the Highland Rim RSO for us today. Jack made this match possible with merely his presence. Thanks to Clyde Kunz for organizing this pick-up date and a HUGE thank you to the TN NG and the Air Force for the range improvements. For those that haven’t been there in some time, we have all brand new metal number boards, range fans and new plastic uprights that worked fantastic. The carriers were also painted high visibility yellow, which was a nice touch. The range was mowed and in great condition, and the new pavilions look fantastic. I am not aware of any new dates this season, though stay tuned because you never know. Until the next time, All X’s and 10’s Chris
