  1. I was walking under the deck a couple years ago and one dive bombed me and stung me at the base of the skull on the back of my neck.  That was that little guy's last action in this world, I promise you that ... but man did it sting (pun intended!!!).

This year I killed a wasp and tore down his nest under the deck (I used a shovel ... was the 'best' tool I had handy at the moment).

  2. I also saw an interesting holster. It's attached to a cell phone case and fits inside the waist band at the 11 o'clock position. To draw, you 1) Insert right hand into pants at the zipper palm facing in until the thumb is near the belt line and pull outwards. 2) Lift up on the cell phone case with the left hand, pulling the holster up until the grip of the gun presents beside the thumb. 3) Slide right hand over to the grip and draw gun.

Pro: 1) Very comfortable, even while sitting down.

            2) Reasonably quick to draw when it worked.

            3) Fits inside the thigh so it doesn't print nearly as much as a front pocket holster.

Con:  1) I'm a skinny guy who wears pants my size, not a size bigger. I've never tried on an IWB holster I liked. This one would hang up when pulling the cell phone case up with my left hand. It seemed like the belt clip was hanging up on the... I don't know the word... I'll call it the welt of the belt material inside the waistband. I tried more than once and it hung up every time. There was no hook on the belt clip. It's held in place by the weight of the gun rather than clipping around the belt so I couldn't tell what it was hanging on.

Con: 2) It requires two hands to draw. I realize this is common with a lot of IWB holsters.

In short, it's a creative idea that completely conceals the handgun and it comfortable to wear. If you can draw it and you don't mind using two hands to draw, it's a decent holster.

    Is it this one??  http://www.concealedcomfort.com

I looked at that one when I was first looking for a holster to start carrying.  I'm a large guy (you could say fat, lol), so I was unsure about traditional IWB at the time.  Now I use a IWB Kholster (supertuck clone) or OWB with the glock combat sport holster.  I never gave the cell pal a try, just watched the videos and thought about it.

  3. Paraphrasing someone on TGO when being questioned about carrying a gun...

"You mean you don't? I hope your luck holds out."

sorry, but I can't recall who said it and what the exact line was. I just remember the story being in a convenience store while getting a cup of coffee.

I think caster said this to some guy in his shop who's son noticed caster was carrying.

Edit: here's the story I was thinking of, don't know if its the same as you were thinking.

  4. If you hate crowds this is a great show. Went today around 1:30 pm and it was easy strolling the aisles.

If you're looking for any .223 dlm27015 has probably the best price in the country (think pre-panic), not to mention he also has plenty of reloading supplies at excellent prices. Thanks again David!

I did not get to meet David but I purchased from his table. This was my first reloading component purchase and the young lady that helped me was very knowledgable. I now have components to reload 1 k 9 mm and 500 .45 (minus lg pistol primers). I can't wait to get my first rounds reloaded.

I also dropped by Predator Custom on the way up to the show, and I left 2 of my 1911's with them to get a trigger job.

All and all, I think I had a good day.

Thanks again to David, and thank you to Predator Custom.
  5. What jurers should be told is they also have the option of nullification. That is finding the law the defendant broke as unjust and refusing to punish him for breaking an unjust law. He may have been guilty of breaking the law, as written, but it doesn't mean the law itself is just and legal.

There are thousands of laws that are unjust and people were convicted because most jurors are unaware of the right of nullification. Had the jurors known they could declare the law unjust a lot of people would be free.

Maybe if more juries were to nullify and begin ruining DA's conviction rates they would quit charging people with laws that are unjust.

I did not know this. You've already educated at least one more person. (Me!)

  6. My Vizio screen started flickering across the entire screen, and my research turned up that it could be blown capacitors. Sometimes (I'm not sure if always) a blown capacitor will be poofed up on the top. This allowed me to find 3 capacitors next to each other that were blown. I replaced these 3 capacitors with parts from the local electronics store (Shields off Hwy153 in chattanooga) and that fixed the problem.

My overall point is sometimes you can visually see a blown capacitor. If you have the soldering skills you can then replace said capacitors. Good luck!!!
  7. Yeah I love the new format ... I think this is gonna be a great season of top shot .... let me rephrase ... the best season. Although S1 didn't have nearly the amount of drama of the later seasons IIRC.

I could see any one of them taking the prize this season. I was not shocked at all by the 1st person eliminated (not naming him just so I don't spoil it for those who haven't seen ep 1 yet).

Here's a link to upcoming show times: http://www.history.com/shows/top-shot/episodes

Per the link you can catch S5ep1 at

  8. You are overlooking a couple of points.

Yes, an employer can fire you for virtually any reason or no reason. However, it matters to an person's UIB if he is fired for cause or not.

This law does take away the ability of an employer to press criminal charges against you for carrying on a "posted property"; while I don't know if it's EVER happened at least it can't happen now.

It also negates the threat of criminal charges for having a firearm in your vehicle while parked in "posted" parking lots at places like shopping malls, etc.

We'll get a good parking lot law eventually; similar to those that some 19 other states already have...we'll just have to wait until we get a governor and legislative leadership with some balls.

Yes Robert, I agree with your points. (And OS).

As a faculty member even keeping a firearm in my car was simply out of the question previously because it was illegal (with a loaded firearm anyway). At the very least with this new law, I can keep a loaded firearm in my vehicle. I *might* be willing to risk a job over policy, that's a question I will have to answer for myself, and I won't post my decision on a public forum. I can guarantee that I was never willing to risk prosecution before this law takes effect.
  9. Law applies to schools also. Permit holding faculty, staff, and students may keep their loaded heaters in vehicle, under terms of the statute.

But unless case law proves otherwise, they can be fired or expelled for it too. Just as they could under the already existing statute.

I thought everybody understood that to still be the situation. There is no mention in the statute of any particular behavior required by employers whatsoever, only a couple of free passes on liability.

    - OS

Thanks OS, I realize you can still be fired for having a weapon in your car on campus (or if your face looks funny, or if they just wanna fire somone that day, or if you refuse to let them search your vehicle). I also realize one can be fired for no reason at all. I'm just glad there won't be legal repercussions in addition to losing a job. An individual could find another job easier than finding another job and dealing with a legal battle. (Although I suppose the employer could also bring a lawsuit against you ... since anyone can sue for just about anything it seems these days).
  10. I figured this would be the case ...

At the least it is a very small step in the right direction ... I see this as the government kind of getting out of the way which is the way it needs to be.  If you have a gun in your car in a parking lot it will no longer be a legal issue.  It will be between you and the property owner / employer.  If they find you have a gun, they can ask you to leave or fire you or whatever.  But before the parking lot bill, in addition to losing your job you could also be charged for carrying past a sign.  As I understand it, after July 1 you can no longer be charged.

So does anyone know, does this also apply to school property for school employees?  Or are schools exempt from the new parking lot bill? (AFAIK school employees could already leave a weapon locked in the car if it was unloaded, and ammo separate from gun).

  11. The citizens voted for it and approved it in a majority. I think that's probably the right way to do things.
Now on the mags/gun issues, gun owners just got f'd. That should've (should be) put to a referendum too.

Well actually according to the 2nd amendment the magazine ban should have never even been brought up. But I agree gun owners got f'd.

  12. Carter's on hwy 58 has a range. I've never been, so don't know more than that.

Volunteer ordnance works in Cleveland has a new range. Again I never have used it, so I have no other info. I've made some purchases in the store and they seem to be good guys, but that was over a year ago.

I believe there is(was) a range on Hixson Pike near Coverdale road(?). Never been there.

If you buy a year membership at shooters, for $165, and shoot at least 10x thru the year, it's $.16.50 per trip ... Pretty sure it's unlimited shoot time. Im a member there, only reason I know a bit more about them.
