  1. I've just been turning in the larger resellers for suspected tax evasion. It only cost me a little time researching them online and a stamp for the envelope. Got one that I totalled up over $2k in online ammo sales in the last 3 months.

    This made me smile.
  2. The gunfire is a problem because it's inconsistent. Zombies are slow, can be found in herds, want to eat you, and can be killed by destroying the brain. It's not real, but it's consistent so viwers suspend disbelief and don't question it. Head shot hip-fires from a handgun at 200 yards followed by scoped rifles missing at 50 yards is not consistent. Inconsistencies in a story line kill the immersion factor by making the viewer focus on the fact that the story is pretend. The story the writers are trying to draw us into is interrupted by "hey....wait a minute....how could that have just happened when last week they did X?"

As for the safeties and revolvers ejecting, that's irritating for much the same reason. The details can make or break a story. The viewer is either engaged in the story or they aren't. Missing the details hurts that. Besides that, it's simply wrong. It would be like having a sound effect for a top-fuel dragster every time they drive by in that Hyundai. That said, it's only going to interrupt the immersion for enthusiasts like us that would notice those details. Most viewers won't notice that stuff, but anyone can notice the marksmanship inconsistency. That's why I think that's a much bigger deal.

The "safety" comment from Andrea, I think, was a throwback to season 1 when she had that nice handgun but didn't know how to use it. I think it was a wink-and-a-nod to how far she has come from scared dingy blonde to zombie-stomper. Sort of an inside-thing between her and Rick, and not so much a comment that his revolver has a safety.

Good post. And your comment about Andrea and the safety is spot on IMO. Exactly what I was thinking.

  3. Learning scales is your best way to begin improvising solos and such.

    This x1000.

Let me preface this by saying I earned a masters degree in jazz studies from the university of new Orleans. I certainly don't know it all, but I think I have some good insight on this topic. I currently teach jazz guitar and bass lessons as well.

The other side of learning to improise is transcription. Copy by ear off of recordings cool ideas from other soloists. Use your knowledge of scales to understand why the licks work, and then expand these ideas to be your own. (add notes, change rhythms, learn the lick in a new key, change the lick from minor to major, find new chords the lick works on).

Play along tracks are great. I like to start students with one chord repeated for several measures -- it's the first step towards using lots of scales over lots of chords. iReal b is a great app for creating your own play alongs, although it is more geared toward jazz. You just type in the chords you want, and the app plays bass, piano, and drums in a style of rock, bossa, or swing( you can buy other styles).

    In summary
    1) practice scales
    2) transcribe and digest other instrumentalist's licks
    3) play alongs (start simple, pick one chord to solo over). (step 3 should combine elements of 1 and 2)

  4. I spooted that too during the all-day update on Sunday. There are also times when you see them work the safeties on the sides of their Glocks. That's too funny.

They do the glock safety thing in ep 1 (that's the one that stands out to me, don't recall others). At the road block pre apocalypse, Rick tells one of the other officers to make sure a round is in the chamber and the safety is off. You hear the "click" of the glock safety ... Lol. Also when he checks the chamber it looks pretty empty but it's hard to see for sure from the camera angle.
  5. Good for the momma!!!

Also it made me smile seeing her show the gun at the end with her finger off the trigger!!

Score again for responsible gun owners!

Even when at home with my shotgun close at hand, I always keep an LCP (or something bigger) on my person. Don't want to be caught with my pants down (literally!) and my personal defense weapon in another room.
  6. I am usually carrying a $1000+ guitar, and a $500 iPad while I'm on campus. In that sense I am transporting money. I am also on the job.

I'm just trying to clarify the situation. The school's money (and other peoples money in the truck) can be protected while on campus, but my life does not get that same protection.

Sure, if I don't like it I don't have to work there, and I can find a new job. That doesn't make the situation "right" though.
  7. I played through it on Xbox ... Really dig it. I plan on doing it again and see if I make some different choices. I also got kinda stuck a few times when I just couldn't fine that one clue I needed to move on. Hopefully this time I won't get hung up like that.
