1. So my wife went to the post office. And as she was walking in she heard a kitten screaming. She mentioned it and a mail worker said it was in her husbands truck somewhere under the hood. Apparently the kitten has been under the hood for two days as he went to work. They acted like the kitten would eventfully die and quit screaming. Well not with my wife around she made them pop the hood so she could find the kitten. She found it and brought it home. Not sure if we have a new family member yet but we will make sure it never suffers again.

How the hell can ANYONE drive around for two days listening to a 2-3 week old kitten screaming? Takes a special kind of sicko to do that.

It is safe, sound and in loving arms now.

The poor thing still looks shell shocked.  I'd hate to have seen it fresh out of the truck.  I'm glad it's safe now.

2. I occasionally use broadcastify.com to monitor the local PD scanner. Within the last week the dispatcher reported a call from someone saying some juveniles knocked on his or her door to complain about a man with a gun. The officer asked the dispatcher if the man had the gun in his hand or in a holster. Dispatcher said the complaint originated from some frightened juveniles and did not include that detail. The officer reported that he checked the location and didn't find anything.

I was disappointed to hear such a call, but we definitely have our share of busybodies here.
3. I didn't wanna post any more than I did, but since you did.

If I were the cop, I would tried to explain to the man that he was being inconsiderate and reckless with other people. If you land on a car, you could hurt some mother trying to get home to her kids or some kid might see you and have difficulty processing it. Not only that, some poor guy has to come clean this :poop: up, so why not take this somewhere more secluded and stop grandstanding your decision. Natchez Trace has some very peaceful and serene bridges with more than ample height. With any luck, the coyotes and possums will find you first and save public workers the trouble.

And, in this case you could have also mentioned that he would be causing you to have an awful day, and that you might be scarred for the rest of your life from having to deal with him.
4. Also proactive computing is a big deal... knowing what not to do, what sites not to visit,  what files not to open, etc....  (not saying its your fault, but there are risky behaviors just like real world diseases, like if you go to Africa, you might get ebola... if you go to mexico, you might get the runs, etc).

Symantec (Norton) will catch most, but it will bring a hot PC to its knees with slowness from all the bloat.   My strategy is to use whatever you can get for free and hope it gets most of them with minimal performance impact.

I'll echo this. I was able to use commercial antivirus software through work, but when I help others with their computers I generally go with AVG Free. It's good enough. Discernment is definitely key.

I've had similar experiences with Symantec's home software. I've heard it's better now, but I stay away from it.

If I think supplemental malware protection is needed, I use Spybot Search&Destroy.
5. I was surprised to learn that the hotel and airfare bundles from sites like Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz can actually be cheaper than just buying the airfare alone. In March I traveled a day earlier than planned, stayed in the hotel booked as part of the bundle for just one night, and still saved money. The catch was that the flight choices were more limited than buying flights by themselves. I found some sites that had fares that were more than nominally cheaper than the big three (see above), but they were all for odd flight combinations. Some involved changing airports in big cities like NYC, Chicago, or London. Others involved overnight layovers. So, I'll probably be sticking with the big three (and airline sites) in the future. HTH
6. At one point Facebook kept recommending that I be friends with a certain person because we had 108 friends in common. Don't you think that if we have 108 friends in common and we aren't already friends then there is a good reason for that? It was my wretched ex by the way.

Pardon me for laughing at that...
7. Thank you, I didn't know that they split the products up like that. (guess that tells you how long it's been since I used it lol)

You might think of Fedora as a Red Hat preview. It tends to fore run Red Hat. If you want Red Hat Enterprise Linux, have a look at CentOS. They take the Red Hat source code, take out the branding, and compile it for you. The major releases definitely lag Red Hat, but the bug fixes come out pretty quickly.
8. The real cold war is between the socialist ideology and the traditional patriot ideology, race, religion, gender and sexuality are the weapons the socialist use.

Would you care to elaborate? I'm intrigued. Race certainly seems to have been used to push the socialist agenda. I'd be interested in how you think "gender and sexuality" play into that. I'm also curious about your angle on religion being used for the socialist agenda. I thought about asking a specific question or two, but I don't want to lead your answers. :-)
9. I had never thought about it never have worked in banking but when the one happened for Oak Ridge Y12 that was my first thought.

Plus I would have the best home alarm system I could afford and I couldn't believe they seemed on the surface to not have some plan in place in case something like that happened.
I would just think I was a target if I worked in a place like that and as I don't want to be target I guess that isn't a job for me.

I believe the one in Y12 was a a manger or higher position.  I was thinking near VP or CEO level but I could be wrong.  My thought was they should have had both a plan and alarm system at least.

There was a similar incident in Memphis in early June.

10. Net10. 3 years & no issues. You can choose between AT&T or T-Mobile. $45/month unlimited talk, text, data. They say they'll throttle you back after 2GB but I haven't noticed. You could try a "go phone" from AT&T. Think its $60/month.

I've been on Net10 for almost eight (8) years. My old Nokia is on the AT&T network, but that was by "luck of the draw". I didn't have any choice. I haven't had any problems, and I pay about $17/month ($30+tax&fees every 60 days) for more minutes than I need. It turns out T-Mobile's prepaid plan would have been more cost-effective based on how few minutes I use per month.
11. They take the tires off, then someone puts it in drive while someone else jams a file into the rotor.

Over the years there have been a number of 'on the car' tools that worked well, including brake lathes and tire balancers. Some vehicles, an on the wheel balancer results in a much better ride because it causes you to adjust for unbalanced components in the drive axles, hubs, etc...

I'm guessing things could go awry if someone tried to rotate tires balanced that way without re-balancing (or some "luck").
12. Just something to keep in mind when traveling west through the state.  Years ago I was driving to Oklahoma and knew I would be needing gas about Memphis.  I figured I would just stop in West Memphis, AK because it wouldn't be as busy and congested there.  I'd say West Memphis was scarier looking than Memphis.  Fill up BEFORE you get to Memphis if you are going that way.

The gas is usually cheaper there, but West Memphis is pretty sketchy.

It seems to me that trying to fight back with the gun already through the window is likely to result in a discharge right in front of your face, brass to the face, disorientation, and blindness. Unless their finger was nowhere near the trigger, I don't think I'd want to take my chances on that one.
13. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel Rodney Lee Scott was found guilty of the following (instead of attempted first degree murder). Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter Aggravated Assault (via a gun) Reckless Aggravated Assault (via his SUV) Leaving the Scene of an Accident Public Intoxication. http://www.knoxnews.com/news/knox-county-man-guilty-of-lesser-charge-in-road-rage-shooting_04695397
14.
But Bloomington coach Dale Chung says Arroyo Valley used a full-court press for the entire first half to lead 104-1 at halftime.
This is the part I thought was poor sportsmanship. I think he should have called off the full court press sooner considering how bad the competition was.

"People shouldn't feel sorry for my team," Chung said. "They should feel sorry for his team, which isn't learning the game the right way."
This, on the other hand, is just sour grapes. And, it is curious that there's no mention of who suspended the coach.
15. Nothing grows faster, however it will spread like wild fire.
Dig a trench 18 to 24 inches deep, sides at a 45* angle, lay a piece of good stainless 24 inches wide as long as the trench.
Lay it so it angles away from the bamboo, the bamboo wont cross the metal.
Or cut and dig up the sprouts everyday.

I bought a house with a stand of running bamboo in the back corner of the yard, and it is aggressive. You definitely want to heed the warning regarding a rhizome barrier. I've been told that the seams need to be joined, too.

You didn't mention if you wanted a movement barrier or a sight barrier. Running bamboo may not prevent encroachment onto your property, but it will slow down larger creatures (think medium sized dogs and up). Another option for a sight barrier is ornamental grass. You'll want to be sure to pick a tall variety that's suitable for your climate zone. Similar to the advice on arbor vitae, it's best to plant staggered rows.
