I didn't know the Scouts were anti-gun.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've carried a handgun for about 30 years. I'm not trying to brag, just give you some idea of experience, since I'm new here. I retired a few years ago from government service dealing with foreign situations. After 9-11 I was asked to un-retire for a while. I still deal with foreign matters, but also with some domestic situations. This requires me to carry either open or concealed. I do carry a BUG too these days.
When I decided I needed a BUG, I looked around for something a bit smaller than .40 S&W or 9mm. It is a BUG after all.
About this time, I read an article in Shotgun News about a guy who carried a North American Arms .22 lr revolver for protection in Florida during a hurricane cleanup. So, I bought one.
After a while, I found that this wasn't really too good. Traded up to a Beretta Tomcat. Loved the flip open barrel but not the general configuration. Too thick and not very flat as I recall. I discovered the Kel-Tec P32 that is much narrower. Tried that for a while.
Eventually that P32 was traded for a Kel-Tec P-3AT that is the same size with a bit more punch. That is the BUG I've kept. I had a first generation that I carried until recently when I gave it to someone who needed it more than I did. So I now have a second generation version. Both have been very reliable after break-in. Actually, the second gen version has never given me any problems from the first shot.
I highly recommend the P-3AT both as a BUG and as casual carry. I normally carry it IWB in a Don Hume holster but for summer use in shorts or jeans carry, it fits nicely into the back pocket in another Hume holster. Also works well with Thunderwear.
Basically, I'd go with whatever is comfortable enough to carry that you will actually carry it. The perfect handgun sitting at home won't do you any good. I know that's trite but it never hurts to remind folks that you actually have to carry a gun for it to be of use in protecting you.

I have an XD-9 sub that I use as a car gun. Fits nicely in the side pocket.
I bought it the first day I saw it. Had a G26 at the time but had a chance to shoot the XD-9 in the shop and traded immediately. The XD is a terrific handgun for G-like guns. I'd rather pack something that can be de-cocked and re-cocked or a smooth DAO, but the XD is OK, as long as you remember to put your thumb on the slide when you reholster it. That keeps your hand off of the grip safety.

Sounds like a winner to me.

Hi folks. Just learned about this forum yesterday over on Packing.org forums.
My normal home is over on http://www.hk94.com/hk/forum.html where I'm a moderator.
I've already left a post over there in the Tennessee forum telling them about this place.
We need a good Tennessee forum that has a database of places that ban carry and the other planned databases. Hope this is it. It just has to be kept up to date. Don't know how you plan to do it, but most databases fail because they aren't updated frequently. After a while, folks stop checking and go to other boards instead.
I actually live at Blountville.
I've carried guns officially for about 30 years, mostly open but sometimes concealed.
I'm a big fan of H&Ks (USP & P7M8), Beretta 92s and Kel-Tec P-3ATs. Tried Glocks for a while. I don't care for them. Just letting you know.
Glock vs XD
in Handguns

I've mentioned in another topic that I had a G26 and traded it for an XD-9 sub. I have found both to be reliable, which is my first requirement in a carry gun. The XD just handles better for me and is a little safer.
I'd have to rate the Glock as very slightly more reliable using factory ammunition. At the same time the reason for that loading reliability is also the cause of the occasional kaboom using the verboten reloaded cartridges.
So, what do I carry? H&K USP 40 or H&K P7M8 for urban use. Beretta 92SB for foreign use. The XD goes in the side pocket of my car. I don't own any Glocks these days. Had a G23 for a while before getting the USP.
